Firstly, I visited this pub as was in a Travelodge down the road. Pub seemed like a perfect choice for evening meal.
First appearance, the pub is old, quite tired looking in my opinion and in need of some TLC. For instance there are large amounts of cobwebs on the garden furniture umbrellas which wouldn't take long to dust off.
Barman was friendly and he told me about the wait for food due to a large table. Ordered my food and waited, and I didn't have to wait long in fairness.
Ordered a draught peroni and a chicken with veg in mushroom sauce. (See pics)
Food was well presented, hot, adequate and filled the gap. But I can't help but feel that charging £13.50 for a standard pub meal...is WAY overpriced.
On top of this, the peroni I ordered was £5!! I haven't experienced prices like, even on my visits to London.
I sat outside during my visit and it must be noted that a carbon filter isn't attached to the kitchen extractor so you are getting all the kitchen fumes blowing in all directions, which isn't very appetising whilst eating.
Must also mention that the landlord who is the cook in the kitchen, was very friendly and gave me an extra half pint of peroni, without me asking, as my original pint had sediment at the bottom of the glass. Fair play.
All in all for me though, the overpricing issue is the reason I wouldn't visit again nor recommend.
This pub has the potential to be great but as it...
Read moreThe food here was AMAZING, but unfortunately we were very rushed when dining. The food came out quickly and after our meal we were asked if we would like dessert, we said yes but wanted to wait a while, we were asked again very quickly and explained we would like to wait. We were then asked for the 3rd time and told if we wanted dessert we needed to order as the kitchen closes at 8:30pm. Soon after we received our bill which we hadn’t asked for, and then shortly after another waitress came over with the card machine, I said we weren’t ready (and could see the waitresses unhappy expression). We felt extremely rushed throughout the evening. I spoke to the waitresses at the end of the evening to ask if it’s normally like this and explained we felt extremely rushed, they apologised we felt like that, but said when it’s so quiet and due to the cost of living if they can close early, they do. Based on the food alone I would have come back time and time again with family and friends but no one I dine with, myself included, would want to be rushed out, so on that basis I will not be returning. I would have 100% recommended to everyone if we felt welcome. If you want high quality food and to be in and out quickly this is the place for you, but if you want a relaxed and comfortable evening I would...
Read moreA first, and certainly not the last, visit to this fabulous place for lunch today with a girlfriend. We enjoyed a non-alcohol drink outside before being shown to a delightful table overlooking the village street. We both chose from the set 2-course menu at £23 per person. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her Beef Taco starter followed by the skate wing. I chose the Skate Wing as a main course and the Brûlée for dessert. the sauce with the Skate was superb and in a class of it's own, as was the delicious Skate wing. Total bill was a reasonable £54.83 including service charge. We were looked after by a delightful young male server and also spoke to the joint owners afterwards, a truly delightful and clearly passionate foodie couple, who are certainly going places. Speaking of which, very sadly, this couple are moving onto pastures new in a few weeks time and we are very much looking forward to hearing from them as to where they are going hopefully staying in East Anglia. Do pop along as soon as you can before you miss out on a really excellent and reasonably priced lunch in delightful...
