I was really hoping to rate this cafe higher, because my friend went a few months ago and had a great experience. Not sure if itâs changed ownership. We booked and were seated upstairs. After quite a while the lady came up to let us know we had to come back down to the till to order (not mentioned anywhere). I asked if they had gluten free bread, as 90% of the menu is bread based, but she said no. The manager is not keen because they handle so many gluten items, so rather than do something to at least cater for gluten intolerance (I understand celiacs is a whole different ball game) they choose to do nothing. She suggested that I go for the tuna salad, which whilst well intentioned, is not an appetising choice at 10.30am. Our coffees arrived luke warm. They bring the food up for you but you do need to go downstairs every time you want to order something else, so not the most relaxing. The food is tasty and cooked quite well, but my eggs were overcooked and my friendâs toastie was served with crisps on the side, could have offered a bit of greenery as an alternative. Itâs a shame because itâs a beautiful little cafe, but we are not in a rush to go back. Some simple adjustments would make people feel much more welcome and provide a...

The French Toast and Spicy eggs were good. However the Avocado on toast was a bit bland. Problem is Iâve had some really good Avo toasts with Feta crumbled in, lemon zest, fresh chilli, hot honey, little bit of onion, good side salad etc. So many out there are fairly bland as a result, as this one was.
However my personal opinion is the layout of the cafe is wrong. When quiet Iâm sure is fine, but when busy having the counter at the back means when youâre sat down youâve got people crowded around you with their bums and arms around you while eating. Which is a bit unpleasant. You donât really know if you can sit down at all on arrival without waiting in the queue, then youâre pushing past people and moving them to get to a table free. Makes it hard for the staff bringing food out as people crowded round the counter. If the main counter was to the side under the stairs would solve some of those ergonomic...
Read moreChic, tucked away café, in the heart of Handcross. I drove past JO.CO Café many times, but never got to stop by. Today I was starving on my way back to Brighton, and decided to give JO.CO a go. The moment I entered, a lovely lady welcomed me with the biggest smile. I said to her I was very hungry, and half an hour before closing, she offered me almost ten choices that she could prepare for me. I opted for a tuna mayo sandwich, which was ever so delicious. She said that their sandwich bread was freshly made this morning, which tasted fantastic. Unfortunately I did not try their coffees, as I had one half an hour before visiting JO.CO. I cannot recommend this friendly café enough, if you are nearby, and want to grab a cake, sandwich, or soup. You won't be disappointed! I have a feeling that their coffees are also delicious, which I am yet to try on...
