The Watermill has gone downhill a little bit over the last couple of years. They opened up (or extended) a large area to one side which is a bit plain and serves little purpose but to house a pool table. The bar billiards table in the old side of the bar stays which is good but wasn't used when I went in on a Wednesday early evening.
The bar was busy with post-work drinkers and a few people obviously going to the football match at nearby Burgess Hill Town (as was I).
My main moan about the place was the beers on offer Courage Best + Directors, Harvey's Best and Bombardier Reserve. At least wasn't the ordinary Bombardier but if you're going to serve four different real ales put in a bit more variety. I'm sure they use to specialise in beer from the Isle of Wight.
It's a handy pub for both Wivelsfield Station and Burgess Hill Town, so Ryman League fans be aware. The club has its beer supplied by Dark Star so you might just be better off going to...
Read moreA locals pub that has gone through a period of change. New management are providing a regular turnaround of different ales from the Enterprise Inns list alongside the Harveys Best. Welcoming and good place for a conversation during the day. Good sports coverage in the evenings on two screens. The bar billiards table remains and there is good support for pool and darts. No live music and the juke box has gone. Cds played on request. Wi fi provided via the Cloud. Still a wet pub it would be good to see the return of a simple food menu. First steps have been made to improve the wine list. Been drinking here for 30 years and the new outlook is...
Read moreHave noticed The Watermill has undergone a recent renovation so was super excited to go here as this is our new local. The staff were friendly and the beer was nice and fresh (not all the beers were on during our visit). However, the lights were so bright it felt like a surgery rather than a pub and there was no background music creating atmosphere. The pub could definitely do with having paintings or pictures on the walls, too. Really hoping it becomes more of a “vibe” as it has such potential. Will be back in a month or so to hopefully leave a much more...
