I was recommended this pub for the food. I checked the website (menu) before booking and duly arrived for Sunday lunch.
Here is where the disappointment started: the website menu was out of date; I fancied the roast chicken which wasnât on offer. So I opted for the lamb. My companion chose a starter with fish & chips to follow.
Staff brought out the three dishes together and quickly returned the main courses to the kitchen. These same dishes came out a little while after the starter was cleared.
My lamb was tough to cut and chew. The roast potatoes were under cooked. My companion ate the ârubberyâ battered fish but left the dry chips and peas.
I placed my cutlery on the plate of food and it was whisked away whilst my companion was still eating his fish.
To give the pub some credit, a lady did come and ask me about my meal and offered me something else. I declined.
My companion paid the bill before we ate and queried with me the cost of ÂŁ52. Food was ÂŁ42.50 and we both had soft drinks. On checking with staff he was given a receipt which showed 10% service charge. Where was this shown on the menu? Why wasnât this mentioned?
To add insult, they charged a further 27 pence to the ÂŁ52.69 bill.
For those who have read my reviews on here and Trip Advisor, you will know that I always try to be fair and balanced.

So good in fact that I took my daughter down a few days later. I had a warm salad, she had the vegan burger and the staff kindly made us some Pimms, which was excellent as it was a warm summers evening and we were sitting outside. Again, service was really good, food fantastic and the drinks excellent.
Happily I am a local, hadn't been down for years but now its going to be a regular occurrence as cannot fault the food, service or drinks.
Well done to the...
