Unfortunately, after my husbands review here on Fleur de Lys, the chef (who is also the landlord ), called us up this morning and tried to intimidate us to take down that review without any apology. We would have thought that he would call us to atleast apologise and atleast review what had gone wrong and rectify mistakes.

Instead he said that we had come to an adult only restaurant and we were meant to control our kids and childrenweren’t welcome. But they failed to mention this when they took our booking over the phone and £30 deposit and arranged a high chair. He then went onto complain about our baby dropping food on the floor - I found this laughable !

Clearly they have been rattled by my husbands review and have failed in any way to acknowledge that they have done anything wrong. On top of that, They said they will create counter reviews from their friends which in fact is fraudulent. They mentioned complaints about our baby (again who complains about a baby?). I will be delighted to see their response on this- the public (with or without children) clearly wont be impressed by their attitude towards families.

We have a screenshot of what was on their website which says that children in the summer are welcome, which he said they were not. Also if they weren’t allowed, we don’t understand why they took money off us and also took our booking.however as said previously , do not expect to be treated well by these people if you are taking a young family. As per our previous post - They should seriously consider reviewing their policy and make it adults only. State this clearly on your website and do not take bookings for families over the phone.

We have had several outings with our children in nice pubs in the new forest, - including high end ones like the Mill at the Gordleton for evening meals where everyone was more than pleasant and the serving staff were very pleasant with our kids . please avoid the Fleur de lys as you will not be welcome if you have very young children.

The chef ended the phone call by saying “now the gloves are off and I’m going to tell you exactly what I think” which we did not entertain as we didn’t want to ruin our morning by his anger and my husband put the phone down as clearly he did not want to listen and try to make good of...

Woeful experience. Extremely unfriendly and unhelpful family atmosphere. We were really looking forward to a nice meal tonight. We paid a £30 deposit, which I don't believe is common practice. Even so, we booked for the earliest 18.30 setting. Baby was playing up a bit and crying as he was hungry, which is hard enough for parents. Made even harder by the chef who told us that there had been a complaint and that we had to keep our baby quiet. No sugestions, no help. It was us who had to suggest that maybe we order him some food. Completely respect COVID rules and understand that kids can't move around (our toddler was sat patiently) I took baby outside until food arrived so as to not make it uncomfortable . We came back to lots of glares all around. My wife didn't eat her meal and took baby to the garden to settle him. My son and I ate for a bit and then he went to see where she was and they had been gone for a while. He came back to tell me my wife wanted us to pay and leave as none of us were comfortable, only for him to get shouted at by the lady serving us and being told to sit. As I said earlier we completely respect COVID rules and do not let our childeren run around when we have been to pubs this week.. He was purely relaying a message between us. We also appreciate the intimacy of a small venues and happily eat out as a family without issue of being told they are loud. We were made to feel like we were a problem for them and it ruined the evening for us. Such a shame for a restaurant that calls itself 'family friendly' It is far from that. I would avoid this place if you are coming with a...

I used to go to the Fleur de Lys often but i havent been for many years. Now this pub, built in 1096 is tastefully decorated and although still a pub the emphasis is on dining. My cousin and I both have 5 star hotel backgrounds so we tend to have high expectations that are rarely met. There were so many tempting choices on the menu but as it was a crisp Sunday we settled on the Roast. We didn't order a starter as the desserts looked good, but while waiting the chef appeared with 2 cups of freshly made roasted tomato and basil soup with home made focaccia, it was divine, richly flavoured, light but creamy. As it wasnt too busy the 2 chefs were also serving and our main course was served by the chef. 2 thick pieces of perfectly cooked sirloin draped over roasted potatoes, carrot, parsnip and wilted savoy cabbage, a huge fluffy Yorkshire and plenty of delicious gravy. With a side serving of cauliflower cheese which could have been a meal on it's own. For £25 it was a substantial meal and every mouthful delicious. We followed with the Chocolate Marquise, with home-made chocolate ice cream and Palmier which was deeply chocolatey but not too sweet. After finishing with a very good coffee we both agreed we felt 'replete' and very delighted to have found such fine dining 20 minutes from home. We will definitely be returning as we have the menu to work through. Wholeheartedly...

We took a day trip to the new forest with the mindset we specifically wanted to find an old, independent, local pub for food. And having spotted a tiny blackboard advertising a 10th century pub, we found this place! And what a cracking find. It's quite a way from the blackboard on the main road (and you'll actually find a different pub first) but keep going along the same road and you will find this one! Beautiful interior and a very cool garden. Plenty of different seating areas and cover. We actually sat outside in the rain but remained totally dry. We had the Sunday menu, and had starters and mains. The price here is certainly top shelf, but so is the quality of food. A couple of starters, mains and a drink each will set you back in the region of £75, but you pay a premium for being in the new forest. The food is delicious. We both put the beef roast as one of the best we have ever had.

Wow! What incredible food! I had the hoisin duck and homemade chorizo salad, another member of our party had the beef wellington and the other had the crab. All were fantastic. I was unsure of the duck and chorizo combination but it worked really well. It's not the fastest of services, but the food definitely worth the wait. I had the crème brûlée for dessert which was delicious. I'm so used to getting a thin layer of crème under a thin crust of brûlée that the deep ramekin came as quite a surprise. It was a luxuriant silky smooth custard and the sugar was nicely burnt. I can't recommend this place enough. The menu is small but it's clear the kitchen is focusing on getting each dish as good as they can. The pub itself is lovely and the gardens are well maintained. All in all a fantastic place that I hope to visit again if I'm in the area.
