We hadn't been here for some years and I believe the name and ownership has changed but we were really impressed by our whole experience from the start. A very friendly lady took our booking on the phone and reserved us a table in the dog friendly part of the restaurant. Our food was excellent and we all found several options on the menu that we fancied before changing our minds and ordering from the specials board. I requested a slightly different side and they did this for me with no problem. There were quite a few people in watching football on TV but it was a nice atmosphere, the beer was excellent and we all enjoyed our meals. Everything came out together and correct, all the staff were lovely to us and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Many thanks for a great evening :)

A great find whilst on holiday. Searched local pubs for a quick dinner nearby. It was just past 8pm and whilst others stopped food at that time, this pub was 9pm and they booked a table for us straight away. I took my 10 year old daughter and young dog - both got a lot of attention. They are very dog friendly and also good choice being I am vegetarian - especially Sunday roast. There was a singer performing and she was really good. Staff were very friendly. Food was great. Had such a good time, we booked for a Sunday lunch the next day and had the same experience. As we are nearby often, it will be a regular choice. I would definitely recommend.

We walked in and were told they were really busy so we’d have to wait for our meal.. we hadn’t booked so we were happy to wait.. an hour later we went to the bar to see what was happening.. we were told a large group had come in unexpectedly so they served them first! 🤷‍♀️. Dinner arrived… no roast potatoes.. carrots and parsnips were raw.. plate was swimming in gravey ! The meal was not edible. We were offered a refund.. as a note.. we weren’t the only people complaining.. I won’t go to eat there again and wouldn’t recommend anyone else going to eat there either!!

Lovely pub, great food, nice atmosphere, exceptionally friendly staff.

We were staying in a nearby hotel and fancied a pub supper. Because they have no functioning web site, (generally indicative of poorly managed companies) and a Facebook page which appeared inactive for some years, I almost decided to go further afield, but we thought we’d look in and we were glad that we did.

When we arrived, there were many steam vehicles and machines in the field, which was fun. We had the Pie of the Day which was Chicken, Gammon and Leek, with chips and salad. We really enjoyed it, very tasty. I had the scrumptious Apple Crumble with cinnamon and custard. My partner had the Champagne Sorbet which was very nice and refreshing.

There were some promising-looking real ales, but I can’t drink alcohol now. The only low/no alcohol option was Heineken, which wouldn’t be my first choice.

We enjoyed the meal so much that we came back again the next night, Saturday. Due to a large party eating at the rear of the pub, they were only able to serve pizzas and salad, but they were good pizzas. The dessert menu was also available.

There was a good covers band, but it was painfully loud in the small space. We go to a lot of gigs and festivals and this was louder than most, even when near the stages. I already have severe tinnitus, presumably from too much loud music in my younger days, and I don’t wish to worsen my hearing loss. I felt sorry for the musicians and people close by, who may have that to look forward to. Luckily, I had ear plugs with me and this bought it down to a...

If you haven't been to the gamekeeper for a while it's well worth a visit. The pub has undergone significant refurbishment in the latter half of 2018 and this was my first visit since. The pub now has a modern vibe and welcoming decor albeit I understand some may feel it's lost some rural pub charm ... It's a touch sterile. On balance though it's clean , modern and an improvement on a pub previously needing some TLC. Food was decent and the layout is good especially the booth tables which strike a nice balance with privacy. Menu could be a little more extensive, but most people should find options. Food prices are in the mid range bracket. Overall if you haven't been for a while recommended for a post...
