The New Wheel Inn — Restaurant in New Forest

A lovely little gem of a surprise just outside of Lymington Town (would be a long walk, but there is a good local inexpensive taxi service if needed).

Brilliant location, with Brockenhurst, Lymington Town, New Milton and Beulea a stones throw away.

My friend and I stayed for two nights, with my dog Luna (pub is very doggie friendly).

Team very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much bother.

We didnt eat here as we were out exploring, but had heard very good reports regarding their food and Sunday roasts.

The Accommodation.... Great value for money!

Super clean and well equipped with room being a good size. Very comfy bed and low traffic noise as in very quite area.

Enclosed rear garden so Luna could be let off lead with no worries.

Cons:- No full length mirror in room. Should have asked for a hair dryer on available as it is not automatically provided in room.

Pros:- Everything else :-)

Will be very excited to see what the new team do with the pub during the summer, ie, garden decorations and flowers etc., they have a great blank canvas to put their stamp on this already lovely freshly renovated country pub.

We stayed at The New Wheel Inn for 2 nights in April on a New Forest weekend break. The room was clean and cosy, with toiletries supplied. Access to the bedrooms was separate from the pub, up some external stairs at the back, but it was fine. We had 2 evening meals at the pub. The pie is highly recommended. My husband is very choosy about pie and quantity of filling, and the pies here are homemade and perfect! I had a crumble for dessert, and as you can see from the photo, the custard was seriously lacking, but it was very quickly rectified with a jug of piping hot custard! The portions were generous and very tasty. We only had breakfast on one morning. Both chose scrambled egg on toast but this was disappointing, white 'cardboard bread and dry eggs. However, overall I would definitely recommend this place. The staff are wonderful, kind and attentive. They are also very dog friendly. We chose lamb shank for my husband and breast of duck for me. This was the first time we had eaten at the New Wheel so we had no idea of the quality of the food. (Except there were very positive review for the few weeks it has been open). After ordering and considering the prices, my husband was fairly confident that it would have come out of the freezer and the portions would be miniscule. We were therefore pleasantly surprised to see plenty of fresh vegetables with the meats displayed beautifully on the plate the equal of any top flight restaurant. My husband was impressed with the lamb, the sauces and the tenderness of the meat. My duck was tender and really tasty with an excellent tangy sauce. Cooked to perfection.
