The 'Fox Inn' at Kelham has just under gone a makeover... & it's a pleasant surprise. The main bar & dinning area has been freshened up & still retains a lot of the features and old character of it's previous incarnation. High ceiling & dark wood. Large pot plants.... Hops hanging from the beams. There's plenty of 'rooms' to hide away from the Mrs or Mr, (if ya out on a secret mission of love? or private leasion with an old friend or the new boss) & the food looks lovely, so you could treat them as well. I had a pint (named 'Raspberry'?) Which I hadn't tried before. It was interesting & different. Enjoyed 👍👍.... There's plenty of parking. A kids play area, (with a variety of climbing activities). And a large area (a little walk away) with tables outside. A few tree's & the river near by. Downside so far: Busy main road, which at rush hour does make some noise. Although 'inside' I couldn't hear it.... Staff seemed happy & interested in people. The manager asked me how my beer was. 😎 & They all were wearing a purple t-shirt with logo. Smart & clean, with smiles. Visit again?...
Read moreOrdered a caramel cheese cake off the dessert menu, the menu did NOT state that there would be nuts on it. When it came it was topped with nuts so I went to the bar to ask what nuts they were as I have allergies to certain nuts. The bar staff didn’t know what was on it and got annoyed at me for asking. The one with red dyed hair was partially rude to me about it and told me “it’s your fault for not telling us you had allergies”. I said I should have been asked if I had any before ordering and that it should have been stated on the menu clearly. She and another lady tutted at me and stormed off into the kitchen. I was left with no clear answer on what nuts they were and felt like an inconvenience for having allergies. No one with allergies should be made to feel like a problem when eating out. Do better.
The chef came out to apologise on behalf of the other staff, but by that point I had already given up and no longer wanted to deal with the drama caused by a few...
Read moreWe parked our Motor home in the car park over night in return we agreed to eat in the pub and we weren’t disappointed. The menu offered all the pub favourites plus a few specials. I chose the Gammon steak which was huge. It came with egg, chips, pineapple, mushroom, onion rings, salad and I ordered a side of coleslaw. It was perfect. My wife went for the Ox Cheeks a favourite of ours from Spain. With creamy mash and fresh veg it was perfectly cooked and delicious. The pub itself is excellent with several different bar areas. We chose the Fox Den an old fashioned Snug with leather seats. There is a large covered seating area at the rear that looked appealing even in the rain.
Staff were really friendly and helpful. This is a great pub though they didn’t have a large range of beers and wines the food is the main selling point. We will definitely come back and I would recommend this place, especially to motorhomer’s...
