My wife and I decided it would be quicker, easier and definitely less messy to eat Sunday Dinner out. We chose The Block House (Sheet Anchor) and we're not disappointed. We had booked and were seated straight away. Great service, we were brought our drinks quickly and the food came soon after. We both ordered the beef roast (pink) with roast potatoes in stead of the sweet potatoes with a side of cauliflower cheese. Everything was cooked exactly how it should be, the beef was pink, the veg had a slight bite and the roast potatoes were fluffy and crispy, absolutely perfect. The amount that was on the plate was more than anticipated with the meat n taters taking the starring roles. The cauliflower cheese was a little rich to be fare but very cheesy. We were served by Leyla who was really good, she was quick, informative, attentive without being intrusive, there was even a splash of humour...top marks Definitely recommend (I just wish I had room for desert) Btw, the photo was taken a couple minutes into it, it was definitely prettier before I got started.

It was OK. Nothing more, nothing less. Considering we paid over £120 for two of us to have a starter and a main course and two drinks each with a coffee, the quality of the food and the service we received were a long way below that standard. We're not in London, those prices need to be accompanied with very good standards. The staff made my wife feel extremely uncomfortable regarding her gluten allergy, to the point where we didn't order anything else because we didn't want the questions associated with it. The food was OK. We ordered nachos to start with and they were delicious. No complaints here. For mains we ordered the salt and pepper brisket which didn't have much flavour at all, and just didn't work with the salt and pepper 'sauce water' that was poured all over it. My wife ordered the ribeye which was very good - although on the small side for a £30 steak. We ordered a side of onion rings which were lovely, and mushrooms with hot sauce and gouda which were just... Well... Gross. It tasted like a bottle of Frank's Hot Sauce was poured onto them and some blocks of melted cheese - we ate one each and left the rest because they were just off putting. The service felt rushed. The staff felt like they wanted us to leave. It wasn't late at all but we were asked multiple times before we'd finished if we were ready to have our table cleared. Once we'd finished and asked for a coffee it seemed like we were just annoying the staff by asking for one - the staff didn't know what a Baileys coffee was, and then insisted on making sure that my wife could drink a coffee because of her gluten allergy. It's served with a Biscoff. In a packet. Yes, a coffee is gluten free, just don't serve the biscuit, or make her aware of it. Awkward, overpriced and not worth returning to. It wasn't awful, but it certainly wasn't particularly good especially for what we paid.

I cannot explain how fabulous the food is here. It's mouthwatering! From the beef burnt ends with house BBQ sauce, Popcorn Halloumi with a pineapple and chilli dip to the Beef Brisket which melts in your mouth. I had the Mac and Cheese loaded with Bacon and waffle bites which I loved 😍 (maybe a tad more cheese sauce though). We were too full for pudding. 😂. All our servers were great, really attentive and speedy to get our drinks orders too. However, they all disappeared, so we had to wait for our bill; only a small thing and allowed the food to go down a little! A fun yet comfy atmosphere, we were by the fire which was gorgeous. Hanging wooden chopping boards are a great touch. The lighting....... Hmmm, it was very dim, I had to use my phone light to see the menu, we laughed about it but it could do with being a little brighter. Second time here and it won't be the last. Bring back the marmite Mac and Cheese bites. Thank you. A meat extravaganza.

We ordered a drink at the bar while we waited for our table to be prepared, and they were absolutely amazing! A dark cherry mojito and a toblerone old fashioned ❤️ Ordered a ribs/prawns sharing starter and there were no potato skins left but we were asled if we wanted to sub with chicken strippers and glad we did. Mains were just as impressive (chicken caeser salad, block & roll hotdog and chilli brisket fries) but we barely touched them due to being almost full from the starter, so we brought them home in takeaway boxes. Couple of strange service moments where we were brought 2 of the same drinks instead of 1, and told by a waitress that if the cocktail wasn't on the paper menu they didnt have it, despite being advised earlier by the barman to check the full menu online (and they did in fact have the cocktail i had ordered!) We had a lovely night and spent 2.5hrs enjoying our meal and drinks

Nothing fundamentally wrong with this place… but having been to many of the other restaurants in the group we were expecting a little bit more from the atmosphere. Staff were fine… except for trying to clear our plates serval times before we had finished. We weren’t a late booking, but it felt like they wanted to clear the section. They were very attentive about food allergies (I’m coeliac), but to the point it made me feel a little uncomfortable. “Are you the one with the allergy?” Even when ordering a coffee because it came with a biscuit in a packet. The food was nice, just rather overpriced for what it is. A lot of burgers, not so much grill and the rib eye was £35, which I wouldn’t mind if it felt like we had more of a dining experience, but it didn’t feel “special” and I I’ve had comparable steaks for less than half the price without feeling quite so awkward for having an allergy.
