Initially spotted the 'Broughton' when it was getting refurbished and thought " that looks nice, we should go once its completed.. "

Unfortunately as its not on our usual commute, we honestly forgot about it, but was recommended by a colleague about its positive reviews (also, I weirdly work in Broughton, which is actually many miles away).

Anyways, initial thoughts were positive from the view on approach and even the very nicely presented car park. Good things progressed as we went in and despite being relatively busy for a late lunch, we got a table without a reservation.

Decor is good, Staff were friendly etc so down to the food first.... We ordered soup of the day. Should be relatively simple you may say, but my goodness, possibly...probably, the best I've had in a long long time, dare I say ever! I believe it was Apple and Parsnip, but realistically I could have many more portions of it!

Mains: I had the Bangers n' Mash, the good lady had the Tempura Beef Salad. In short, I was very pleased with mine. In particular the gravy (or 'jus' if you want to be posh) was amazing. That only left the minute predicament that I could of done with a 3rd 'banger' to mop it all up (as I believe licking ones dish clean would be frowned upon šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‹). I then remained jealous of the Tempura Beef salad which looked fantastic and the good lady confirmed it tasted just as good. I did steal a few pieces of beef too, so can confirm its great taste. šŸ‘ Unfortunately we were filled to bursting from starter and main, so we'll have to come back for dessert (such a shame...šŸ˜‰šŸ¤£).

Drinks: albeit good and reasonably priced the service was very slow and needed a few prods to remind the busy table staff.

In summary, we will definitely return, but just hope they can iron out the slow drinks bit. Sorry, forgot to take pictures of the food, as we dived into it so quick, it as too late when we realised. Again, more excuses to return.

2nd visit, as promised to at least myself...

Returned as food just as great, just this time, I remembered to take pics. Service much improved, so maybe 1st visit was teething problems.

Either way, the car park is virtually full now, and I'd recommend booking in advance, as word is clearly getting around. Yes, a tad expensive, but worth...

Beautiful place. Service was painfully slow with young waitresses stood around gassing. An hour’s wait before any food came out. The starters were great but hampered by the 21 glasses on the table. Cutlery was dirty. Mains came both steaks were overcooked. The sirloin was ā€œburntā€ and the wellington was very well done and ordered as pink. The salt and pepper fries were so salty as to be inedible. The burger was tasteless and needed to be dunked in the gravy (which was excellent ) to be rehydrated. The haddock was bone dry and overcooked and came without peas. The garlic bread was swimming in oil and raw. There were children playing between tables and babies screaming. People in tracksuits slouching and noisily eating. Won’t bother reviewing the pudding but we left one virtually untouched. The beer was flat as well. To summarise we had high hopes as we had all eaten at some of the groups’ other places. We were greeted and taken to our table. Then it went downhill. I maybe critical, as I am a food lover but this was very average food at too high a price. I wanted to give a 2 star review but I think it could have just been an off day. The place was just over half full so it can’t be blamed on that. It wasn’t staffing as many times upto three waitresses were huddled chatting. So I can either blame management or a new chef. Lucky to get a 3* for pub grub and a bill of over Ā£400 for 7 people. There were also two drinks on the bill there didn’t order. They were removed, we did however notice that the service charge was calculated pre fake drinks and remained. Only tiny amounts but if this is regular then??? When queried about the extra drinks we were told that it’s because the iPads bounce on the...

This meal was a very special occasion, I have worked for the NHS for 38 yrs and I’ve just semi retired, so wanted somewhere special! We came to lunch so decided to book a family meal! I requested a certain area by the door as there was 5 of us but 5 adults, which I didn’t get, I was so disappointed by this, instead we were place on the end of the long row down the middle on a small table with barely any room on, we ordered nimble to share while waiting for starters, they completely filled the table, maybe these tables could accommodate a small family but definitely not 5 adults We couldn’t hear ourselves speak! I felt the venue was so over crowded, I understand maximum people bigger profits! But not a pleasant dining experience at all, I ordered a steak it was cooked fine but the quality of the steak was shocking, I left most of it, and no didn’t complain the place so packed and I didn’t want to cause an issue! Not only in front of my family but in front of the table next to me! As they were so close, they could hear every word we said as I could there conversation. Our bill came to over Ā£400 as to make it a special occasion my husband had ordered a bottle of champagne and balloons, a lot of money for this experience. I just wanted somewhere to celebrate my achievement of 38 yrs service, did I achieve this no I didn’t… not at all! Thank the staff for me who did there best for me in such a crowded place Would i recommend a speacial occasion here on a Saturday night definitely not . As my husband ordered champagne and balloon you have also contacted and I think his review was...

We dined here on Easter Sunday. Definitely need to book with ample time ahead as the restaurant is quite busy. Service was fantastic, we arrived a little early so had a drink at the bar then were shown to our table. Everything arrived in just the right amount of time meaning the pacing of the evening was good. The Broughton has obviously had a high level of thought put into the design which is a mix of contemporary, traditional and art deco styles. The 8oz Ribeye was a perfect medium rare, smokey and perfectly seasoned - very impressive. The peppercorn sauce was the best I've had - great spice and flavour. The chips were very disappointing - undercooked, a bit bland and felt like they'd been chucked about the kitchen - all broken apart. Considering this is a £27ish meal I would have expected the chips to be perfect too. Overall would definitely recommend for the steak itself but maybe try the fries as they might have been better. The duck salad was a little disappointing, the duck leg wasn't cooked particularly nicely and the accompanying salad was bland - the best part being the pickled cucumber. It would have benefitted from a more tender cut of duck that you didn't have to pull off the bone as well as an appropriate dressing to go with the salad. I would not recommend this dish. The desserts were all perfect - the espresso martini choux bun was creative and all the elements were really well done, crisp choux bun great rich and sweet sauce - wonderful blend of flavours and the brownie was rich and tasty. Definitely recommend the choux bun for something a bit different.
