The White Swan Inn — Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne

drove 35 minutes after hearing great reviews, upon entering we were not greeted at all, once the table was ready we were shouted at to be seated to a table that was not set nor clean fully & we were not informed of items that were no longer available on the menu. food orders went in and we didnt wait long for our starters which were nice, no check to see if everything was ok. Server come to clear our plates and asked “was that your starter” then proceeded to drop the cutlery all over my partner with no apology. Mains come and again no complaints over the food but no check to see if everything was ok at any point. Server cleared our mains and asked if we would like a desert so we asked for a menu, server dumped the menu on the table, didnt make us aware of any specials at all. Once deserts were done i asked for the bill from one server, waited 10 minutes it did not come so asked another server for the bill, she brought it and dumped it on our table, nobody come back to ask how we would like to pay so i got up and paid at the bar before leaving, woman behind the bar was very rude, didnt ask once if our meal was ok or nothing was more interested in other things.

Overall service has severely let this place down today, almost all servers walking round chewing gum and honestly looking very dull, uninterested and like they were slaves being forced to work.

If thats the morale your staff have got god help the longevity...

If you’re looking for a nice place to celebrate a special occasion avoid this place at all costs. After having a booking of 15 people for a family birthday i have left shocked with the rude barman’s comments towards my 2 grandchildren asking me to get them out of peoples faces while there eating!!!!!! My 3 year old grandson pretended to shoot a diner who playfully played dead,,,, certainly not in peoples faces.This was whilst i was trying to sort out a very disorganised billing system taking at least 10 minutes as your not able to order on separate bills?????…. I think my two 3 year old grandsons were well behaved considering waiting at a counter when they’d already been dressed to leave. I have dined out countless times over the years with my children & now my grandchildren & have i never been so insulted & so upset at my experience at this restaurant. After waiting 15 minutes at the bar to be served i was approached by the waitress asking if i new what i wanted,,, i had just arrived & hadn't even looked at the menu!!!!! Today we had our Sunday lunch at the white Swan and usually it is fantastic and I love to eat the Sunday lunches at the white Swan but today was a bit of a disappointment because on arrival we were shown to our table once sorted the waitress came to take our order she took our drinks first. I was very disappointed as I do not drink alcohol and I drink soft drink and I am diabetic so it has to be soft drinks with either low sugar or no sugar so to make thing worse there was no diet coke then when asked did they have diet any thing else our waitress said no so I ended up having to have a full sugar soft drink. Then the next disappointment was our lunch was served and it was cold and that was all of it meat vegetables the lot now usually we have a cracking meal so it is so hard for me to be writing this sad bit of a review, I do have to stress mind the staff were all lovely and very pleasant as the usually are all in all I would not say I wouldn't go back because I woul be more than pleased to go back and eat a meal at...
