We were brought there as part of a tour. We ordered hours early and still took some people 50 minutes to get food. The people that talked about the older waitress in other reviews must have had the person we had. We traveled all over Ireland and this was the only "horrible" customer service encounter. When my burger came my "handcut homemade fries" where small and limp. Unlike the fresh steak cut fries others had in my group. I went to eat them anyway, a fry is a fry right?? Wrong, they were half cold and tasted like the were made hours ago. I had my wife try one and she agreed. The oldest waitress was walking by and I politely asked if I could have a fresh bowl of fries. I told her they were half cold and tasted "a bit old." She bent down to my face, about 12 inches away, and just grinned at me... Like the Cheshire cat but without teeth. She took the bowl without saying a word and left. A few minutes later she returned dropped the small bowl in front of me with a "thud" and said, "the chef said they are handmade fresh and there's nothing wrong with them" and walked away.
Before getting back on the bus we were standing around talking about lunch. Another person in the group said lunch was, " ok, but my fries were terrible." I asked him why and he said, "" they were cold and old, i couldnt eat them. "
Guess on the Lobster Pot the customer is always " wrong" even at 20 bucks a plate for lunch... We also asked for tap water and received bottled water and was charged 3.95 sterling each......
Read moreWe called down to Strangford intent on visiting the Artisan Cookhouse. Unfortunately for them, they were on holiday. Unfortunate as we changed plans and headed for the Lobster Pot. We were greeted with the news that there was no lobster, pork belly or salmon. Always a bit of a downer when half the menu is missing. However, a burger and shared portion of scampi were ordered. Daft thing though; the scampi comes with fries but if you want parmesan on them you have to order an additional side? But when they arrive, all is forgotten. Huge, absolutely huge, the biggest scampi I have ever seen in my life. And so fresh. Just as well my wife shared with her mum! My burger was excellent. I've said before here, a burger is straight forward; good bun, well made burger, maybe some cheese and relish. That's it, that's all you need. If you want something fancy, order something else. Keep it simple, stupid! The service was excellent; attentive, speedy and knowledgeable. Couple things stop me from giving a higher rating; half the menu missing and the draught from the door every time one of the GOT groupies walked through the door. That said, it's not somewhere you should walk passed if you're...
Read moreLovely meal to finish off the end of a great day out in Strangford and Exploris aquarium in Portaferry with my daughter. Bar and restaurant were busy with a large party booking and the Grand National on at the same time, never the less we were given our table promptly. Staff although obviously very busy we’re always very attentive to make sure everything was alright for us. Food was served before expected and was delicious, daughter having the mussels with garlic and white wine sauce instead of the Thai infused dish in the menu. I opted simply for the cod and chips which did not disappoint, everything just as could be desired. An unfortunate accident with a bottle at an adjacent table resulted in a volume of glass and wine spilt but was dealt with quickly and with great professionalism, staff all maintaining their courteous and attentive service not creating a fuss or diverting attention to the incident for the other diners. Every member of staff at this charming cosy harbour restaurant compliments it with the standard of food and service. I will not hesitate in visiting again next...
