Always rated this place very highly until today & travel quite a distance to it !! Arrived to be told there was no seats even though they quickly rushed to put a reserved sign on a table in front of our eyes! This didn't bother us to be honest as we hadn't booked and so were happy to wait! We were told "there's no seats at the minute so wait outside" .....yes very blunt I thought ! Could have been worded so much nicer but again we gave the benefit of the doubt! We sat as we were told, 5 minutes passed and a couple of men had came out as well as a family with young children! We waited another few minutes as 2 young guys went in and got a seat almost immediately! I went in to use the bathroom and on my way out could clearly see a table large enough for us 4 still left the way the customers who left maybe 5+ minutes ago with no effort being made to clear it! I decided to walk up to Top Nosh to see if they were opened and indeed they were and I got a lovely welcome! I walked back down and got the rest of my family and still no one had came out to offer them a table bearing in mind another 3/4 minutes had passed! Totally disgusted to be honest with the Galley on this occasion & wont be rushing back any...
Read moreTables for a start were not overly clean, there was a strange smell in the place. But heard good reports so stayed to try the food... The young girl who showed us to the table looked like she would rather be elsewhere!
Food... Well I got lasagne and chips. Chips were good no complaints, but the lasagne was oily and laces with what I could only describe as cheap cheddar cheese that looked like it had been microwaved! It was mostly cheese, giving it an oily overpowering taste! Lasagne should not taste like this... Was hardly any meat either. Salad would have been nice apart from the dressing.. This should be stated! As not everyone likes dressing. The garlic bread again was oily like someone just covered it with garlic butter and hoped for the best! My partners burger was good according to him and he enjoyed his chips but I thought the garlic chips looked far from appetising. Not everyone can eat greasy, oily food..deffo not worth the money.
Highly overpriced for...
Read moreThe baked fish - pensioners offer - which gives fish and chips (in my case champ) and a cup of tea for £5.95 is undoubtedly worth a 5 out of 5. The value for money and the quality of the fish unparalleled. My mother visits on a very regular basis.
The desserts however - we tried pavlova and lemon meringue in our party - were disappointing to us. Maybe down to our personal taste for a different kind of pavlova - we also prefer raspberries or strawberries as toppers - it’s pictured so you can make up your own mind. Locally there are so many other places to choose for a better quality dessert from our point of view.
We didn’t book and had quite a large party so had to wait a while in the small entrance foyer. It was good to be accommodated though but would recommend you book in advance as most locals seemed to have their tables booked.
Definitely would return and recommend for the fish and the value for money. Would just choose a different place to have our...
