Depot Eatery — Restaurant in North Devon

Having driven past this restaurant everytime we visit the region we decided after our 4hr drive to treat our children to lunch. We entered , sanitised and were greeted then led to our table in the raised window area. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and shortly after arriving we ordered our food. Food was prompt however one meal (pulled pork pizza) didn't arrive. I approached the bar after around 10minutes to enquire about the missing meal to be told it hadn't been ordered by the waitress. The female member of staff at the bar said "I will remove it from your bill". For the pizza to be on the bill, clearly showed it must have been ordered and just forgotten about.

When we finished the 5 meals (should have been 6) I asked for the bill. I waited a long time before having to visit the mens room. Upon my return the bill had been served and paid for by my wife. She asked if there was an amendment to the bill for the inconvenience caused and was told "No, You ate all your food "!

I approached the bar to complain as the visit was a disappointment due to the missing meal and attitude when raising it. I spoke to a female at the bar who was of the opinion that because she removed the price of the meal from the bill that it was OK. Of course the price of the meal would be removed as it was never received. To remove the meal from the bill is not a gracious gesture it is expected.

I asked for her position and she replied "supervisor", her attitude was "I removed it from the bill" as if that's a massive thing to do. When I was in mid conversation with her she was rude enough to speak to other customers what a total lack of respect and a massive sign of disinterest.

I was going to write to the restaurant however decided this is one future diners need to read.

Basically the food was nice , customer service is completely lacking. If your meal goes well without a problem great if not their not interested. This was a quiet time I would hate to see the attitude if busy.

Food was spot on, flavoursome, hot and went down a treat on a rainy evening. Unfortunately, the service really let things down. Sat down, order and Food arrived promptly and after that is when the good things stopped. We did get a table check to ask about the meals, after which nothing else. Staff to interested in talking amongst themselves. No checking on extra drinks orders. And when it came to clearing the table, we were sat for around 20 minutes as staff walked past, chatted with their colleagues. Eventually a waitress finally asked if we had finished, as she cleared the table I asked if the remaining pizza could be placed in a pizza box. Off the waitress went, another appeared with a pizza box chucked on the table and left, the table was only half cleared. The waitress that had started clearing was next seen taking meals out to another table. I ended up having to ask another staff member if they could finish clearing the table, whom seemed very put out from my request, her response was yeah yeah in a minute. We were going to have desserts and coffee but once again no staff offered anything to us. I had to go and request to bill from staff talking again. It's a shame that the service was so poor it completely shadowed what was nice food and resulted in no tip. Highly recommend reviewing your staff training processes and maybe asking if guests have any allergies on arrival and when...

Myself and my friend stopped here on our first night in a local campsite- having travelled 3 hours we were not in the mood to cook! We stumbled across this gem, managed to book a table online with ease for an hour ahead (we were very pleased with).

From the moment we walked in a member of staff was there to greet us and welcome us to our table. We promptly got our drink order taken and they came in a timely fashion. Having had a look at the specials I fancied a steak where I made nearly every adjustment under the sun, but it wasn’t a challenge for the team! The steak was cooked to perfection with fluffy yet crispy chips too. My friend highly complimented her burger and was so so pleased. There was no delay and I was quite surprised at how quickly the food came out. Dessert was a lovely biscoff cheesecake !

During our time at the table there was a family we overheard requesting an order of an item on the menu to be done for their child, lady checked with the kitchen and they could do it! Another table next to us had a gluten intolerance and many items were catered to be gluten free, I was quite amazed!

The only minor detail which I could say requires improvement is asking whether there is an allergy for anyone dining in. I did make them aware of my allergy so it did not hinder my experience in...
