This is the 2nd time we have stayed with Richard and Wendy and we absolutely love the Stag Hunters Inn.

We were very warmly welcomed on our arrival and even though our last visit was 5 years earlier Wendy and Simon remembered us which was lovely.

Our room was amazing very spacious and clean with a stunning view of the gardens from our balcony. We enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the various birds on the feeders.

The evening in the restaurant was lovely a relaxing friendly atmosphere and the food and service was absolutely amazing. The steak was perfect and exactly cooked to my liking.

Breakfast in the morning was also fantastic the sausages and bacon are all so tasty I highly recommend a full English.

The chef is amazing and the food is excellent 5 star.

We booked another weekend in October and can not wait too visit again.

Thank you Richard and Wendy their family and staff for looking after us and making our weekend so special.

We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Stuart...

If you’re looking for a quintessential, dog friendly, English pub (and hotel) in quintessential English countryside The Stag Hunters Inn is a brilliant choice. A reminder of what a pub was before Gastro or Bistro became trendy.

Welcomed into the bar with a smile and friendly chat. All types of guests chatting, reading and watching sport.

To drink was a traditional selection of real ales, lagers and good quality spirits. I didn’t see the wine list but can assume it has an equally good selection.

Food choice was as hoped. The main menu and specials board both offered classic dishes across starters, mains and desserts. All our food was served perfectly and, unlike the norm, were served with all the trimmings (at no extra cost).

Every member of staff was approachable and served with friendly professionalism that made for a very welcoming...

Editing this because I think you can only leave one review. Went back again Sept 2024. Another outstanding dinner, If you like traditional pub food, a warm welcome and a good range of drinks this takes a lot of beating. Went on Sunday night and had the roast beef. It was excellent, all the vegetables were prepared on site and cooked perfectly. Beef cooked to perfection and the gravy was just right. Genuinely friendly service and competitively priced. Will be...

On holiday. So good rebooked for Sunday. Extremely accommodating totally professional and courteous on the phone. Upon entering really lovely bubbly atmosphere. Staff one and all so welcoming cheerful. My father my wife and I coupled by our dog were spoilt rotten with excellent food choices and portions. Piping hot. Spotted dick to die for. Pubs have changed massively over the years. This remains an unspoilt treasure. Roll on Sunday lunch. Nigel and Co.

What a hidden gem! We booked here last minute after some camping disasters. The staff were so incredibly friendly and helpful. Rooms were really restorative for us. Had some lovely vegan food for dinner and breakfast, they were highly accommodating for us. Also, had a fantastic selection of whisky! Thank you again so much, for making our visit so special! We will absolutely be recommending this to friends and family.

Passed here on the way back from a lovely walk to Watersmeet and back. As it was Sunday, I couldn't resist being tempted by the Sunday roast. And I couldn't have had a better meal. It was super, sat in the little garden beside the river. Not only very nice food, but also very full up afterwards! And the beer is excellent too. So for £9.40, forget the conveyer belt carveries, and treat yourself to lunch here!
