After seeing many positive reviews, we thought we would visit for Sunday Lunch, and booked a table for six people, getting our joint opinions for our Hotel customers.

When we first arrived we was greeted by several friendly staff, unfortunately this changed quickly by a tall gentleman behind the bar, in this order: We confirmed our booking He asked if we would like a drink, we said yes and asked where are we sitting, he said "on the floor" (I took it as it was intended, a joke). A lady pointed at a table. I ordered some drinks, and this is where he got very unfriendly, enough so that we left without eating. He repeatedly disagreed with our ordered, and what I heard on the radio (a private discussion with a member of our group)... We order 6 drinks, he managed to get them wrong three times, each time I repeated the order. We just wanted to order some drinks and sit down and eat with our group.

We sat down and discussed what just happened, all six of us were in shock, we all agreed I placed the correct order, but irrelevant, even if I did make a mistake with the order, or misunderstood what I heard on the radio, he should have not have spoken to me in such a rued manor.

The pub looks very nice, but this man made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, we decided not stay for lunch. The rest of the staff were nice, polite and friendly.

When we paid to leave, he had to have a few more digs and try and turn it around on me.

So long as this man is working at the Westleigh Inn, we will not be returning, also advising our Hotel...

Amazing find! We were recommended this pub by our neighbour and what a recommendation...The staff were so accommodating, the food incredible, and the scenery was out of this world-I will miss the sunset view across the river so much until the next time we can visit.

(I wouldn't normally write an essay but they deserve a proper acknowledgement)...

We called in without booking a table on the first night of our 3 night stay in Devon, a young waitress greeted us and was able to juggle a table around to fit all of us (2 adults, 3 children and a big puppy) in for the evening. We enjoyed it so much we called ahead on the second evening to be told that they were fully booked. Devastated we started driving around trying to find anywhere that would be able to fit us in only to be called back a few minutes later by Lisa to be told that they remembered us and could put us on the same table whatever time we could get to them! Happy days! We then had another evening of superb food, lovely proper pub atmosphere, very attentive and personable waiting staff and spectacular scenery. We enjoyed it so much again that we booked for the next night there and then. We can't wait to come back to North Devon and know for sure we'll be eating at The...

From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome. Westleigh Inn is an old traditional inn with plenty of charm and character.

Outside is a very large garden area, plenty to keep the little ones amused while the adults sit back and take in the views of the river and Appledore. There is outside undercover seating too with, it seems, heating for the chillier times.

Inside the inn is as previously stated, full of character and the dining is laid out in a way that it is both comfortable and cozy.

We took a main from the menu and one of the specials. Both were very good. The Thai Green Curry was far better than expected and very good value. The venue do not skimp on portion sizes.

To top it all the staff were excellent. Their people skills and approach far exceeded the norm. A credit to the management. They must have been hand picked.

The inn is also dog friendly which is a great bonus for us.

We will definitely be...

Fabulous gastro grub. We came from Pillhead Farm via the minor roads - NOT for the feint hearted! (Returned via the A39). We had booked in advance, and good job we did, it was well busy. Service was quite slow, but I couldn't complain as the majority of the work was being done by the middle-aged blonde lady, who was running around like a headless chicken. The food, though not particularly cheap, was absolutely fabulous. My wife had a steak cooked to perfection. And my steak and ale pie was quite possibly the best I've ever had. Massive chunks of beef in a rich and plentiful gravy, not at all dry like as in many places I've eaten. And the shortcrust pastry was divine, crumbly (even the lower half), and sweet tasting - almost like shortbread biscuits. There were no complaints from the others in our party, not even the kids. There is a good-sized car park, and a moderately equipped playground in the garden helped keep the kids busy.

OMG! I don't think I'll eat tomorrow... The starters were the size of mains and the mains, well one word Amazing. We had a party of 8 Inc two kids and were easily catered for. The huge beams on the ceiling looked positively ancient! The burger is the best I'd had in a long while, proper tasty beef patty in a brioche bap, with mouthwatering chutney and chunky chips. The other dishes looked great too, again I state the only issue was the size of the portions. Service was superbly attentive and the kids LOVED the play garden; lots to do from football goals to swing ball. There is a great off ground play gym too! Ample parking with good sized bays. This is a gem, I'm sad I've been driving by for 20yrs unaware....

Old Devon country pub, located in a small village with narrow winding roads. Ample car park located at the rear of the pub, with outdoor garden seating and garden room. The Bar has a good comfortable seating area and is dog friendly. The menu has a good selection of starters (You got to try the Squid & Chorizo) mains (plenty for both the Carnivore and Vegetarian), salads and sandwiches. The food is delicious, served immediately from the kitchen and hot. The portion sizes are for a healthy appetite, but excellent value. Highly recommend the Cod & Chips and the Mushroom Pasta.
