I've read the other reviews for Kath's and feel like I must have gone to the wrong place! I immediately felt the weird vibe - lady behind the till (Kath?) couldn't even muster a smile. I was hoping for a full English and asked if they did a veggie option. The short reply was No. I'd have been happy with egg, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast but she didn't even offer that (so I'm guessing popping a pack of meat-free sausages on the shopping list would be a step too far?) I opted for an egg mayo sandwich. Then I realised it was cash only (even my gardener has a mobile card machine!), but luckily had a tenner on me. I sat down...15 minutes later still no coffee. I mentioned it to the cook who had come out of the kitchen and was tidying a table. She looked at me with daggers and said "yes, I know. I'm working through the orders." I felt like a nuisance for asking. When I left, I did a quick recce of the farm shop. Which was actually 3 scruffy cauliflowers, a few cabbages, some tomatoes and mouldy lemons...with a line of laundry flapping in the breeze next to them. The whole visit was just odd and unpleasant. Maybe they were just having a bad day, but there are enough lovely coffee shops in Derbyshire for me to not have to...
