Party of 4 at 8:45pm Friday night From walking it we could tell it was extremely busy, we had to grab a bar lady's attention to get a drink, we was Booked into the restaurant upstairs so hoped we get a bit better service, we got offered a bar table, but due to how loud it was we opted to wait. We got seated pretty quickly and shown to our table. We was notified of what you had run out, so that was good. We ordered a Cambert to share between 4 and a extra garlic bread, the garlic bread came a few mins after the Cambert but we was warned about that. The starters was okay, the Cambert was over done slightly, the salad garnish looked dismal, had burger sliced toms, onion that was cut really poorly, and some very sad looking leaf, no dressing, nothing really wow about that. The chutney was nice. The starters was cleared quickly, we ordered a second drink, which we actually went and got of the bar tray our selfs as we could see it just being ignored by the guy on his phone behind the bar. Mains... The waitress that brought our food, wow her service was terrible, she clearly had, had enough by this point. We had to ask for some fresh cutlery and napkins. This she man handled at the blade and fork side, then we had ask for more sauces..... She was extremely huffy rolled her eyes launched the packets on table and walked away huffing....... The kebabs, we ordered 1 of each they had a wow factor to them, the chicken was lovely, the chips were really soggy and definitely frozen koffmans not hand cut like the menu said, we all left the chips. The corn on cob was dry, didn't have that nice fresh corn taste I expected. The pizza was nice. However the house salad was shocking! Sliced toms? What happens to a nice cherry Tom? Onion cut terribly like 2 year old cutting skills, dry tasteless croutons no olive oil or seasoning very bland and dry, and some mixed leaf that was soggy and discoloured.... For a House salad that's pretty easy make nice this was by far the worst I've had. We paid for a extra Ceaser salad that was covered in some sort of mayo, you wouldnt eat a spoon full of mayo so why would you thickly coat this on a light crisp salad? We complained at the end of the meal and got both salads removed of the bill. I literally couldn't pay for that rubbish. I had to shout from my table to the lady behind the bar for our bill. The service we had while you was taking our order was okay and then we just seem to be forgetton about. I'd not seen my parents for a year, so this actually was a special get together and hand on my heart I thought I'd chose a good place to wow them with in the heart of Wingerworth but unfortunately this wasn't the case for us tonight, far to busy to be able to give that service you pride your self's on. You just feel like a...

We visited as a group of 10 for my sister’s birthday, expecting a special evening. We were spending a lot of money and had high hopes, but from the start, it was clear this venue does not care about large bookings or creating a positive guest experience.
Before arrival, my sister tried to add a guest to the booking and was met with cold, unhelpful responses. It was obvious they don’t like large groups, despite the revenue we were bringing.
On the night, we were told we’d be seated at two separate tables at opposite ends of the room — despite clear available space near our main table. No effort had been made to accommodate us as a group. We had to physically move tables ourselves to sit together, with zero help or concern shown by staff.
Management attitude was the worst part. Lauren, the floor manager, was dismissive, patronising, and wouldn’t even deal with complaints about food, passing them off to someone else. Brad, the general manager, was sarcastic and unprofessional — his tone was effectively “tough luck”. We weren’t rude, just frustrated, and were met with arrogance at every turn. The only person who showed any decency was Sean, who at least apologised for some of the food issues.
The alcohol policy was applied with no flexibility or common sense. My 18-year-old stepson had a photo of his ID but was refused service. While the law allows discretion in certain cases (e.g., 16–17-year-olds drinking with a meal and an adult), they make it clear they won’t use it. Fine — but ironic, given they later served a dessert to my 12-year-old nephew with a separate 50ml bottle of Baileys. That’s not just inconsistent — it’s a licensing issue. The incident is on their CCTV, and we also have a photo.
Service was slow throughout. We had to ask for more cutlery, drinks took ages, and starters were served on plastic plates — not what you expect at these prices.
Several of our meals were completely inedible — mine and my niece’s were blackened and tough, and another guest’s steak was cooked totally wrong. No apology, no effort to fix it.
To top it off, we could clearly see staff upstairs and behind the bar talking about us — not even discreetly. It was childish and unprofessional, and just added to the embarrassment.
What was meant to be a joyful birthday celebration ended up being frustrating and upsetting. The atmosphere was ruined by poor service, disorganisation, and an appalling attitude from those in charge. We came to enjoy ourselves and left completely deflated.
There are plenty of places in the area that value their customers. This, sadly, is not one of them. We won’t return — and we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone planning a...
Read moreI love the Hunloke Arms..let me say that first..all previous meals have been excellent but.. My daughter and I came Thursday for the Christmas Turkey dinner. Firstly it came on 'cold' plates with cold dishes for the veg and gravy...and the food was either cold or luke warm. I really was nice about sending it back but we couldn't eat it so had to. The young girl apologised and said they would bring fresh... No...not fresh..it wasn't much warmer and neither were the containers. We were told it was fresh food, but the piece of turkey my daughter had taken a bite of, came back with the teeth marks. But they still insisted it was fresh. Nope it was even drier Turkey and me thinks they'd shown it the microwave. The veg...ie cabbage and sprouts were raw...not even Al dente. Yet the carrots and parsnips were well done. Same dish that had been taken away because the one dish with a red onion on top...came back with the same red onion on top. By this time we couldn't t eat it. And 75% was left...including the Turkey.. oh and the 8 pieces of pigs in blankets that commandeered the meal. Such a poor way to end our eagerly anticipated meal out. They were good enough to knock 50% off the meal meaning we only paid for one, but a decent meal would gave been better. I write this reluctantly as I have always previously had good meals but I've been poorly since the afternoon of the following day and I'd only eaten toast all day... Would I come again...maybe... and it's a big maybe. My daughter has said a definite no..you can't serve partly reheated food especially Turkey.. . Just as a side note, I booked well in advance for the blossom room, and even though it wasn't overly busy we were pushed into a little side room out of the way, with no atmosphere at all. We came for a Christmas vibe seeing as how we wanted the Christmas Turkey.. but I didn't like being sidelined out of9 the way. Do i love the place enough to return... maybe not. The whole night was ruined from start...
