Upon arrival we were greeted well and shown to our table. The establishment is very welcoming and the tables well presented and chairs are comfortable and in-keeping with the vibrant and classy atmosphere of the venue. Service was good for drinks, and the menu was explained to us well and there was plenty to choose from both regular and special options - very good selection from the children’s menu too. We opted for the soup starter which was beetroot soup, we’ve never actually seen that offered anywhere previously, so was worth a punt! My wife found the soup too rich but I really enjoyed it and I’d go as far to say it’s ONE OF THE BEST soups I’ve ever tasted. The staff enquired if all was ok and as my wife wasn’t so keen on the soup, they offered her a complimentary ham hock starter, which was also exceptional - this was a nice touch, they didn’t need to do this, as the soup was fine just not to my wife’s taste, so bonus points there for empathy and customer service. For the mains, we both ordered the roasts (beef and pork respectively) and my daughter had sausages, chips and veg. My daughter really enjoyed the sausages, chips and isn’t generally keen on the veg but really liked the leeks and greens - they must have been tasty, as she’s a very fussy eater as a four year old. The roasts were amazing and again ONE OF THE BEST we’ve had in a long time!! I’d sampled the beef as well as the pork and I cannot fault anything about these roasts, presented well, good portion sizes and tasty as anything. Gravy made to suite the meat being offered too and not some generic offering. We really enjoyed our ‘experience’ here and we really do recommend you visit and try for yourselves, this is a gem and the prices are very reasonable for what’s being offered here and the service is amazing. Now on to the bad points … there were none, so nice and easy!!! Great work guys, keep up the great work, Gordon Ramsey would be proud of this place I suspect, if he were to complete one of his famous visits!!! Take care and...
Read moreWe come to this pub every summer, but this year they’ve really upped their game. The food was so good, a significant improvement from previous years. Portions were generous, flavours spot on, and service was quick.
We were a group of five and ordered two Sunday beef roasts, the burger from their menu, and for the kids, scampi and chips and cheesy tomato pasta. For dessert, we shared an Eton Mess. All of it was delicious.
The pub itself is cosy, with a lovely beer garden out back that’s perfect for sunny days. We sat outside, which was great, though it’s worth noting that if you’re outdoors you pay as you go rather than running a tab. I imagine they’ve had some bad experiences in the past, so fair enough, but table service would have made it even better.
It’s also very family-friendly, with a children’s menu, a playground in the beer garden, and a selection of games and books to keep little ones entertained.
All in all, we’re really happy with the improvements this year at this lovely little village pub. We’ll definitely be back before our...
Read moreCosy village pub, very friendly staff, good service, mid week evening in August, very tasty goats cheese and tomato starter. Duck breast main with celerec puree beautifully smooth, tasty bon bon, and various sauce's, I loved it. Wife had bangers and mash with onion gravy, which was a lunch item but they accomodated our evening meal request, there wasn't a scrap left. I had dark chocolate torte and raspberry sorbet, that was lovely strangely they had peanut butter moouse with it, but I ordered it as the main was so well balanced , and to my surprise it all worked. Wife had chilled rice pudding with white chocolate parfait, flambéed strawberry , gooseberry and lavender crumb and she rated it 10 out of 10. Take my word for it that's some recommendation. Interestingly they also do takeaway fish and chips, again this looked lovely. I had to do a review as we were looking for a local bar restaurant and or fish and chips, and this place didn't come up on a Google search, it deserves to, it's better than the Anchor Inn in Morston, and that's was...
