Arrived around 1pm on Saturday for lunch. It was quiet with only three other people who were drinking at the bar. I asked for the menu and ordered a pint of Mahou lager. The menu was very limited which is OK but I was told that some of the items were unavailable….no crab, no game casserole and a couple of other things had been replaced although I can’t remember what. I ordered the burger with pulled pork. At £16.50 it is the most expensive burger I’ve ever bought but I was really hungry & thought well it must an amazing burger at that price. First there was a problem with the Mahou & they just kept pulling pints of froth. I said that I would have an alternative but the lady behind the bar said “well I’ve started pouring it now so you’ll have to have it”. I basically had to wait an age for all the froth to settle and was eventually served three quarters of a pint of flat lager. I would have walked out at that point but I was really hungry and this was the only dog friendly pub in the area that I knew of. After another long wait, my meal arrived. The fries were cold and the onion rings were cold and greasy. I took a bite of the burger and have to say, it tasted great. My second bite however nearly broke my tooth! I opened up the burger and found a two inch piece of rib. How they could miss this is beyond me. By this time some large groups of people had arrived so rather than join the queue to make a complaint, I just ate up and left. Suffice to say I won’t be returning!

Before planning to stay in this area for the weekend, I contacted this pub on Facebook messenger as they had great reviews and were close by. They were very responsive and helpful, even changing my booking when requested. The Sunday roast we were served was exceptional!!! I am always concerned with what I’ll be served as a vegan, but needn’t have been here. The chef had cooked my nut roast fresh without butter etc and even served cauliflower with vegan cheese. He even came out to serve it explaining what he’d done which gave additional comfort if it was needed (it wasn’t). The nut roast wasn’t your typical dry nutty overdone patty…..this was something else really moist made with mash/veggies/nuts, it was very tasty with plenty of flavour! The roast potatoes were amazing too. My partner is not vegan and said his meal was extremely good too, the turkey was moist and the portion sizes are large, just what we needed after a 5 mile walk! Highly recommend this little gem for Sunday dinner, just make sure you book in advance as it’s a small local place and they need to limit guests to maintain such high quality. If we are in the area again, we’ll make an effort to eat here again 😋 Thank you Ps very dog friendly!

A gem of a pub, tucked away from the main road (if you can call the Happisburgh to Sea Palling road a main road!). It is a brilliant example of a local pub that does fantastic food and great ales/drinks. We'd been recommended The Star for its cuisine so we called in one lunchtime and, it can be said the pub far outweighed its reputation. I had the rack of ribs and my wife had the burger with halloumi and sweet chilli sauce. My ribs were excellent (see photo) and the burger was exquisite, I have never seen that much halloumi in one place before. The young lady behind the bar was very attentive and made you feel at home and it was so refreshing to listen to the locals chatting away and involving you in the conversations as well. If you're in the area, it's your own fault if you don't pay it a visit. You'll miss out on a real treat.
