We recently visited The Staveley Arms for a last minute Sunday dinner, whilst in the area. We were given a table in a front bay window overlooking the village, which was wonderful. The welcome was warm and the food and drink was top notch with ample portions for parents and kids alike. We rounded our meal off with ice cream and desert, which were excellent. The lunch was reasonably priced, providing decent value; we will certainly return again and highly recommend. Following our lunch, we enjoyed a lovely, short walk in and around the village which is a charming, picturesque place.

Popped in for a pint after a walk on the Ripon Rowel footpath from Ripon. Lovely pub great atmosphere friendly staff and small selection of different lagers and ales. Great bar snacks (freshly made) too which is unusual (for us anyway). Definitely will return. Review update 30/11/24: Had a really good time out with friends from out of town Not your typical pub menu or food. Everyone enjoyed their starters and mains. Was great to see game meat on the menu which we thoroughly enjoyed (pheasant breast, wild boar pate, game pie).

So glad that we stumbled upon the place. Looking for somewhere halfway to meet friends and glad that we dined here. Was immediately greeted with warm welcome. Cozy decor, complete with Christmas decorations. Country casual, but very professional. Food was absolutely delicious. The pheasant, mustard mash and haggis was one the best meals I've eaten this year. **Chef's kiss** It's not often I'm near Ripon, but this place is definitely on my list for when I visit again.

Edit in response to your response... I've emailed you as requested. The date we went was Sunday the 18th of August.. 2024 The Time was half three to four. The reviews for this place are only relevant after October 20th 2023.. Not before as it was under different management then ... The food before was great and fresh... Pink roast beef not grey... Also no stale hard to cut potatoes... Ect.. See original review.

Original review *This was a really a great place to eat. We came back for the first time after the new owner's took over... This was bad...very bad.. We went for a walk... Thought that we must try this place again... So we popped in... New staff... All Lovely and friendly.. They fit us in... No problem... Which was lovely... As walk in customers... The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

We ordered two Serloin beef roasts.. With extra cauliflower cheese as a side... That never turned up... I asked the lady at the bar and the lady that served us also for the extra side order... I heard in the back ground when our main plates arrived... Well they never asked for cauliflower cheese... (we did)

The meal came out very quick... No cauliflower cheese... Re heated left overs Is the best that I can say... And describe about this dinner... The beef came out like grey bits of lamp heated thick cut bacon... 3 small grey bits (shaped like bacon) A very Weird texture also... Over cooked and hard to cut... I've never seen roast beef like it.... Ever. The "beef dripping roast potato's" had shrunk... Then had been Re heated... Left overs... They were stale.... And very hard to cut...

I had a couple of mouth fulls... It was very bad....

The lady who asked if it was okay... Said "it doesn't look right... But we've had no complaints today." As I cut through the food to show her... She knew it was bad... But was very professional.

My partner ate half of his... Saying it's really not great... But that he just wouldn't come back.

I was polite and said this isn't right...

They kindly didn't charge us for the food... And offered us a pudding.

We politely declined.

This was just soooo awkward... Our first time sending food back....

What a difference and what ashame..... It had all the hallmarks of a chain like a weatherspoons .... Fast in and out... No care for good quality food...

Avoid... Wouldn't recommend for food at all.... Beer stop great...as it's in a lovely area... The staff are lovely as well .. Just a very bad and awkward experience.

I really hope that this changes as you don't know without an...

Only given 4 stars as I did not get to experience the entire establishment. Very welcoming staff and very acommodating. I turned up for dinner without a reservation but was allocated a spot in the bar area if I didn't mind. A nice selection of bar drinks available and the one I had been kept well. A Christmas menu as well as a la carte. Slightly above average prices in comparison to other venues in the area but that's like comparing M & S to TK MAX (preference).

I chose to have a fresly made steak and ale pie. There is a 30 minute waiting time on this. The mash was very nice as was the side of gravy and vegetables. I'm certainly one for my pies and in my personal opinion I felt that the 30 minute wait was a real let down for what I received. I gave my feedback to the staff as constructive, not negative as everyone to their own when it comes to their pallet. When you expect a steak and Ale pie, that is just what you'd expect and not a meat and veg pie, you already have a side of very nice veg. The gravy had very little taste to it unless the side of gravy was meant to be the ale part of the dish? There was certainly no richness or ale taste and I'm used to this in other pies I've had throughout the region and other parts of the UK. All in all I found the food, drink and staff and venue...

This pub has struggled in the past and had numerous changes of landlords, I hope this is not the case for the new landlords, they deserve success. Undoubtedly the best chef , best food and best service so far. Starter was thinly sliced beetroot with sublime whipped feta and shards of apple with walnuts. Although Sunday roast was the dish of the day, other options were available, between us we also had vegetable wellington roast dinner, an enormous fish with beautifully hand cut chips, crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle, and steak pie. You can stick potatoes in the oven for a few minutes and call them roasties for the sake of quick service or you can take the time to do them properly, fluffed after boiling then roasted til crispy, it's worth the wait and these were perfect. Followed by sticky toffee pudding and bread and butter pudding, both were lovely. It was very busy so a bit of a wait for the food but what do you expect for freshly cooked food, if you want it quick and microwaved go to Wetherspoons. Staff were very professional and helpful and had dog biscuits in their pocket for the puppy . Not much of a 'pop in for just a drink ' kind of couple but we will be now, this pub deserves to...
