We had dinner at The Coach House Brasserie which was an annoying experience, the staff were very unwelcoming when we came in, the food was reasonable, the interior is tired like the hotel but the service was literally horrendous, one of the worst we have experienced.
The staff came across as inexperienced, unbothered with no management, a lot of staff present but seemingly not doing much but standing around chatting.
When we arrived at 4:30pm the restaurant wasn't busy but our table wasn't ready, despite the table being empty it was still covered in dirty plates. We then waited 15 minutes over by empty, yet dirty coffee tables with used cups and plates that no one came to clear while we sat (it felt more like a public canteen that was cleaned periodicly). When we got sat down at our table, our server disappeared for 20 minutes, he didn't even ask us if we wanted a drink before he took off. When he reappeared, I actually had to ask him could we order, he was in another world and we were baffled.
35 minutes go by and we still don't have our soup starters or children's meals. With our hungry 2 year olds waiting for their dinner and becoming agitated, another table of 5 adults across from us who arrived 30 minutes after us then began receiving their starters, at this point we had to complain and suddenly our food appeared 5 minutes later (almost an hour to get a starter), however our server disappeared for good.
The manager to be fair took some items off the bill due to our experience but it was just a nightmare. We didn't leave until 7pm due to the slowness of the service with exhausted children.
I would recommend retraining your restaurant staff to avoid more...
Read moreI'll start with the positives , the service was very professional and the staff were attentive and polite throughout. Especially the waiter who served us, he was very friendly. Drinks were prompt and tables around us were cleaned quickly etc. Lovely setting overlooking the golf course. Menu appeared varied with decent vegan options. Unfortunately food was poor and an issue with every course has spurred me to write this review. For the price and competition these days there is no excuse . Not expecting Michelin star but was very disappointed. Garlic bread starter Consisted of two anemic cold slices that looked like the typical shop bought stuff. Superfood salad arrived dry and undressed. Main course of hake which my partner ate was passable however bland . I ordered the nut roast which I assume was laying in a freezer since the 1980s , it was dressed with the salad garnish I ate for a started so I'd have the joy of enjoying the dryness twice only the nut roast was so poor i couldnt pretend . The kind waiter noticed promptly and offered to change the dish and was very accomadating. I then had the Thai curry, also inedible clearlt too much paste used by this stage I'd given up hope and it was left intact apart from the rice. We order two deserts, black forest which was heavy and cream was yellow and tasted of fridge and Sticky toffee - sauce was rich but pudding was cold in middle and stale. With three drinks the bill was £95 ish on a week night . At this price...
Read moreVery disappointed with both the food and service. The worst service I have experienced in a restaurant setting.
We were seated promptly and looked through the menu for 5 mins or so and were ready to order. My partner and I tried to get the attention of staff members for 10 minutes before we were eventually noticed. If the place was busy it would not have been an issue, but the staff were just hanging around talking amongst themselves with no awareness of their customers.
I ordered the pork belly, which was hidden beneath a serving of mash potato. It was hidden for good reason as it looked like it was boiled. Not what you imagine when you order pork belly. It was overcooked, tough and had inedible skin on it. I still ate most of it because I was famished after driving all day. Probably should have said something at the time, but I was too sheepish. That's on me. The mash and red cabbage were good.
My partner got the superfood salad. It was pretty flavourless. She asked for some olive oil and balsamic vinegar and she was given a little ramekin with standard vegetable oil and the smallest drop of balsamic in it. At this point, we nearly laughed. We were tired and didn't want to deal with making a fuss.
We weren't offered dessert menus. We overheard a group across from us asking for dessert menus and they didn't get them for another 10 minutes.
Reading other reviews there is a lot of high ratings so I'd hope that the night we were there just happened to...
