We ordered drinks at the bar before being shown to our table, which we had booked for the four of us few days beforehand 2 of the drinks we recieved were not what we asked for. Was asked by bar staff if we wanted them changed but said there wasn't a need to. The four of us ordered our starters along with our main course, we waited a good hour for our first course to arrive which was really bad especially as we were the only ones in the restaurant. Two of us had soup and bread roll, which we enjoyed, the other two starters, buttermilk chicken strips and popcorn chicken and breaded mushrooms were just adequate. After that things rapidly declined. My partner ordered chicken tikka masala, and my daughter in law ordered fish and chips which appeared to be OK at that time. Twenty minutes later we were informed that both those dishes were not available, so they both had to make other choices. My daughter in law ordered whole tails of breaded scampi. My partner was offered a madras curry as a substitute, which he accepted. A further 15mins past and a further bombshell occurred as we were told there was no madras curry either. Choice number three he chose. was the steak and ail pie which my son had already ordered for himself. I had ordered the gammon steak. The food eventually arrived, the two steak and ail pies were inedible and cold. Ending on a good note my gammon steak was absolutely delicious All in all our experience was very unsatisfactory, especially as it was my sons birthday. When challenged the manager, apologised for the appalling service with a disalusioned look on his face indicating that this was a fairly regular occurrence. He offered us a. 20% discount which we reluctantly accepted. Unfortunately we will never return to this...
Read moreWe walked in and was welcomed and told to take any table that's not reserved. A pleasant welcome and then the waitress came to our table and took our order for drinks. Shortly after they were brought to our table, we then placed our order for food...I ordered the Black and Blue XL burger and my partner the Scampi...after around 30 to 40 mins our food was presented to us.. well the Black bit certainly lived up to its title. My burgers were totally black and rock hard, massively overcooked, and the mushroom that was placed on top of the Black Burgers was actually hard enough you could snap it into pieces like a biscuit;) as for the Blue, it was none existent, burnt to nothing. Needless to say I pushed the plate to one side as it was totally inedible. I find it hard to believe that a chief can serve up food in such a state. It wasnt like it was just well done, it was totally Black, rock hard and shrivelled up, fit for the bin not presenting to a paying customer. Obviously the chief does not present the food it gets passed over to the waiters and waitresses for them to front the customer and take the complaints. It's such a shame because the pub was nice, the waiters and waitresses were pleasant and apologetic... I was offered a replacement meal but refused, the reason I refused is because if the chief was prepared to send that out theres no pride is his/her work.. that tells me enough.. no thanks. In future my custom will go elsewhere. A complete waste of an evening out...my biggest regret is not taking pictures of what was put in front of me, they needed sending to head office to let them know what the chief is prepared to present on their behalf.. Zero chance of me returning to The Corner house while food like that is...
Read moreWe as a family went to The Corner House for a Boxing Day lunch. It was an absolute farce. There were only two waitresses. We had pre booked all our orders so they knew exactly what was required. But we waited over an hour for the starters but most of them had to be sent back as they were cold. One of the hotter ones (soup) was spilt onto my five year old granddaughter’s hand and arm, and although it wasn’t hot enough to scold her badly, it was hot enough to require holding under a cold tap and have ice applied. Whilst in the restroom with my granddaughter the waitress also came in to have her soup scaled hand tended to by the chef. But the manager did not even come over to ask how she was. The soup was also different to what was on the set menu. But no one advised us of the change. It should have had pesto croutons but instead had leaves, which were then stirred into the microwaved soup. After being asked 3 times when our mains would be bought out we were told each time that they were being plated up and would be out soon. When they eventually arrived they were all cold, one turkey dinner had no turkey on the plate. When the food was bought back out after being microwaved (again) one of our party was given a plate of food that had already had the gravy poured out and it wasn’t by her and two of the plates had thumb prints in the mashed potato (which was made from a packet). My daughter demanded to speak to the manager and told him how unacceptable the whole afternoon had been, the appalling food and disgusting service, the whole experience ruined our day and it was too late to try to go for lunch anywhere else. So we all went home hungry! We will not be returning and would certainly not...
