Read moreBooked in for an evening meal here while staying at a local hotel to pick up my new car the following morning. Booked online on the Greene King website. Walked in to a nice welcome and all the Covid safety measures were in place including a one way system, hand sanitisers and all the staff were wearing face coverings. I was shown to my table and the service was really friendly and prompt from a waitress called Rachael....all the other staff were also lovely and friendly. I ordered a beer and decided on the carvery.....it must be really hard trying to serve a carvery in these strange times but the staff coped well. Using a ticket which was shown to the chef through a perspex screen...you choose what meats and vegetables you wanted. He added your portions to you plate from behind the screen.....you picked up the full plate at the end of the serving area through a gap in the perspex screen. Food was excellent....I had Turkey and Gammon with roast potatoes ,cauliflower cheese ,broccoli, red cabbage.Yorkshire pudding with lashing of gravy and cranberry sauce. It was delicious...!!! I have Bakewell Cheesecake with Vanilla ice cream for dessert which was also very tasty. I really enjoyed my evening here....staff,food and service was excellent. I would recommend and...

The chicken was watery, the sausages pasty (and left a waxy after-feel in the mouth), the chips were fairly crisp outside and fluffy inside — but dry in the chewing. I left most of my plate.
I didn't complain at the time, because it was clear that this was the regular fare — yet I know that lots of places serve better quality sausages and chicken at comparable prices.
Would I go back? Yes, but mainly to oblige my better half; and I would have the carvery.
They have one of my pet peeves about grammar in the menu. It's NOT 'half a grilled tomato': it is a 'grilled half...
