After quite a few years revisit was well overdue. Place was packed could only get a table in bar area and that’s at 530pm ! Soup was a delight piping hot Potatoe and leek with a gf roll . Mains I had the lamb shoulder with mash parsnips veg and red currant jus. Lady had salmon creamed leaks with veg . Excellent Kaiken Merlot with a port and brandy followed by cheese board . An excellent few hours , great food excellent service and a roaring open fire 🔥 perfect evening . Will be back Update 11/09/24 Food still very good cannot fault it but service gone down a bit … owner as always a perfect gentleman but young waitresses not very attentive and hopefully this point gets to the owner second time now meal disturbed by young children running about obviously linked to staff with one female with a loud voice shouting after them . People don’t want to see that when paying to eat a meal in peace . On the positive food still great but noise in bar with small kids and poor service spoilt the experience.

I was treated to a farewell bite to eat by my son on an early Friday afternoon. Being of a certain age, I've been to the Roebuck many times over the years, probably with big gaps in between so I'm not a regular. What I can state, without exception, is that the steak pudding served here is the best in Oldham, and probably further beyond. I didn't have a starter as they are substantial and came served with chips and mushy peas. The steak filling was full to the top of the pudding and had obviously been cooked for hours, melting in the mouth. The suet pastry was just perfect. You have to wait thirty minutes when ordering one as they have to be steamed but definitely worth the wait and the opportunity to try the blonde bitter which went down very well. It's been a successful pub/ restaurant for many years and will continue to be so. The staff were welcoming, the location is lovely and I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I was in the country.

First time out to a pub since lockdown.Well set up to allow people to enjoy themselves but still be socially distanced. My daughter had booked it and getting in was painless. Our table had a magnificent view of Manchester and the weather was kind to us.Our waitress was very attentive and even asked about beer selection for me and humoured me while I asked beer specifics. We ordered food which was not long in coming and was superb and plenty of it.We had a 3 hour slot but it turned a bit cold so we took our leave full and happy. Next time we are over in Manchester I will definitely be coming back.

I'm not usually a Karen and would normally just move on with things but I think the upper management of this pub require a bit of constructive feedback on their own demeanor.

Been in here for food a couple of times and all I have to say is I agree with the lady's earlier review - you're only as good as your staff. Only reason we went back was for the food but we will not be back because of the service. From the minute you walk in the door there is just an unfriendly atmosphere and worst of it all the main culprits are upper management - Landlord and landlady. Both incredibly obnoxious and unfriendly. It says dogs allowed online but the minute we sat down with our pup the landlady proceeded to scowl at us from across the bar - baring in mind we were tucked away in the corner and the dog wasn't bothering anyone. Another family walked in (seemingly local as they were letting on to people in the pub) and put their dog on the seat next to them, so we followed suit and did the same. The landlady proceeded scowling and rolling her eyes as she walked past and eventually came over to give us a blanket to put the dog on and said "people" were complaining - you mean yourself? The blanket is absolutely fair enough however the landlord and manager both seen us walk in with the dog and didn't say a word so how were we to know.

My mum had accidentally knocked a glass over as the table was sticky and she tried to slide it out of the way so the waitress could lean over and put her plate down, which in fairness, wouldn't have happened if the waitress had just walked round the table to my mums side anyway. Well, the reaction was something to behold. It was like accidents never happen in there! The landlord started helping out and he turned to the waitress and said "was that you or her?", landlord landlady and waitress all looked totally fed up that they had to help and it felt totally unaccommodating. Granted the landlord came over and replaced the drink begrudgingly.

We actually felt that unwelcome we cancelled our desserts got the bill and left. As we were walking out we walked past the landlord who totally ignored us, and the manager said bye only because we did.

In all honesty the vibe I get from this pub is that they are only friendly if you're local but if you're a passer by they have no need to be nice. Hats off to the lady with the red hair, I didn't catch her name but she was the nicest member of staff in the building and I think everyone in there should take a leaf out of her book.

The only thing keeping you guys going is the fantastic chefs in the kitchen, as your service is...

Won't be returning. Made a really bad impression.

*Nice looking place, quality food but shaky service and so so portions.

Great place for a homely feeling inn. Came in to the empty side of the place with members of my family which was welcoming.

Waited a long while for drinks after ordering despite a bartender a few metres away not doing anything (I don't know if the waitresses can serve drinks).

Good choice on the menu for most people. I started with the spring rolls and samosas, I was very disappointed by the small portion. 2 samosas and 1 roll... Plural should be removed from the menu. Disappointed for the price!

A long wait for the mains but when they did arrive tasted great! We were all impressed.

The main problem came around dessert. We ordered more drinks during the mains and we had to ask twice more over 20 minutes for them. In that time we had ordered dessert, 3 individual scoops of ice cream. After ordering we saw all of the workers coming to our quiet side of the bar to rest and talk (which is fine) and one gentleman who I can only assume as the manager/owner with the way he was walking around, who was heavily intoxicated, talking and joking extremely loudly with the staff and then drunkenly staring at us. Then the chef left!

Oe had assummed there was another but once again we had to ask multiple times about our dessert as it took half an hour until my ffather went to the nother side to ask a waitress who looked extremely swept off her feet about it who then had to rush into the kitchen herself to prepare. It took her no time at all and came out in an apron. We felt sorry for her as the other staff were still all joking together.

We won't be returning, wish that waitress all the best as she's a hard worker. Shame on that...

My husband and i celebrated my sons 20th Birthday here at this lovely restaurant. Our 2nd visit. We had booked beforehand. We didnt wait long for the waitress to take our drinks order. Within 10 mins she was back to ask us if we were ready to order our food. Her manner of service was bright, bubbly and smiling. We ordered our meals and within half a hour our meals arrived. My goodness, presentation and hot food was 2nd to none. My son had the Salmon Fillet on a bed of crushed potatoes and leeks with hollandaise sauce and seasonal veg. My husband had the fish, chips and mushy peas. The fish was hanging off his plate. It was huge. He commented that the Peas were just to his liking as were the home made wedges. I on the other hand had the home made meat and potato pie, home made wedges and garden Peas and gravy which was thick and tasty. The pie sure was a belly buster and the filling reaches to the top of the pie crust. Everything was perfectly cooked and was welcomed by the three of us. Thank you so much to Mark and Sue for a lovely dining experience in your well appointed inn of views across Oldham. All of your staff are a credit to you and look forward to coming back soon to sample more of your...
