Travelling to beautiful Wales from equally as beautiful Scotland, I decided to stop for breakfast. Boy was I disappointed. Where do I start? No price list for the breakfast items. No jam near the croissants but I was charged for it. It’s things like that which make a reviewer think you only care about the money and not the customer experience. Massive queues which went down very slowly because the staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing. Youngsters probably paid minimum wage. I’m not having a go at the servers. The problem is poor management and a questionable business model. Trying to get the job done on the cheap. Your staff are equally as important as the food you’re serving. Invest in them. The food was bang average which shocked me. I had heard such good things about this place but was massively disappointed. They even made a TV show about the place, for goodness sake, they had such a reputation! I will be driving on to the next services on my way home which is a shame. The coffee was good. Really good and I do love my coffee. That’s what got you the 1 star. I know that the food in services is expensive, something for which I would love hear a justification, but £11 for that plate?! Come on Tebay get your act together or have you let the attention you got from the TV show go...
Read moreThe good: chai latte was freshly prepared and was lovely but costly. The bad: poor service - our server at the quick kitchen was well presented but her attitude stank. She gave the impression that she was above serving drinks too the general public and was vocally more worried about a daddy long legs than customers. She didn't know if they served bacon and sausage baps ( it was on the menu) and was borderline rude. Over priced food - our bacon and sausage baps were very expensive (£7.25 for a bit of bacon and one and a half chipolatas) on a standard white roll. Naff coffee - coffee tasted burnt and was expensive. Toilets were ok. Lighting was dim in the men's but the women's was spotless. Overall I don't expect much from a Welcome break or road chef, but I was hoping for more from Tebay Kitchen - we were most disappointed by the quality of the service. We won't bother again. Might as well use a welcome break and get food...
Read morePoor show today, tebay usually my go to, but i might reconsider. Arrived at 2 asked for sausage and mash with the onion marmalade, oh sorry no mash, serves chips instead, asked about the marmalade procedes to enter kitchen get the jar out then get me a spoon to self serve, i then pay and thiers no forks, asked staff for cutlery after standing for 3 minutes with a hungry two year old, i ask two more staff still waiting, i find a seat, go back to find they've added some wooden cutlery, i then attempt to cut the sausage with the knife, but the sausage is so tough and the knife so blunt it just squashes the sausage. Just not what i expect pull thr finger out, enough staff standing about...
