I think they were having an off day. We ordered three apple juices but they only had two left. We ordered our main meal and were told that the vegetables would be broccoli and carrots. Two of our meals arrived after 25 minutes with no comment made about the third meal. I checked five minutes later to find that it was on its way. No offer of condiments to go with a meal was made to the other two guests and I had to go and ask. When the final meal arrived. There were no carrots but no comment was made and we didnāt know if theyāve just been left off. I checked and it turned out that there were no carrots.. I tucked into my chicken and leek pie only to find it contained ham. I pointed this out to the waiting staff and they apologised. It was kind of them to take the cost of my meal off of the final bill,. They had offered to replace the meal with something else but having waited half an hour I didnāt want to have to wait for a new order. We looked at the desert menu having been told that one of the items on offer had run out.
Weāve eaten at Skimmington Castle before and had a wonderful meal with wonderful service however we were somewhat disappointed on this occasion and doubt that we...

No reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities even when you ask. No effort at all to make provisions so basically, they ignore the Equality Act.
Staff are rude, but, especially the male manager with greasy hair.
Listen to this one: one waitresses dropped some plates on the floor after clearing one table. She used the same cloth that she had used to wipe the tables on the floor, then used it to wipe tables again. Yet, there were dogs walking around in the pub. Poor hygiene, it's pathetic.
The food made us all ill. The potatoes were roasted from frozen potatoes. Hence they were disgusting.
I can only assume, the 4.5 stars awarded on here are scored by regulars. It was obvious that regulars received special treatment, special tables and obviously they were well respected than some of us who wanted to try a new pub on a cold Sunday day. We were treated poorly and that is even after we had booked a table in advance!!
Quite frankly, the food I cook at home is better than what I ate...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEnjoying a late lunch after a walk, even though we had quite a wait we didn't mind. We hadn't booked and the pub was full. Just as we were finishing our food and about to order more drinks, a member of staff joined his foul - mouthed mates and joined in their loud expletive ridden conversation. This was in the decked area and there were children eating with their families. Completely unnecessary and inconsiderate. You can't do much about customers behaviour, but a member of staff behaving equally badly? Unacceptable, and this is the second occasion he has ruined a visit to the Skim. The last time I took my brother and his lady, and this member of staff stood next to our table talking and swearing with some customers he obviously knew. I can only assume he is the owner/part owner/son of owner, otherwise he would not be employed. The other staff are lovely as is the pub and, in the main the food. During lunch today we had actually discussed booking a lunch in the Christmas period, but after this staff member's appearance we've changed our mind....
