have just left here not along ago and it is such a shame to have to say its gone completely down hill and we will not be returning. No draught beers only two ales and limited bottled beers available. Steak burger is not a steak burger it was hard and tasted very similar to a Wetherspoon's burger, ended up giving it to our dog as trying to catch the attention of the waitress was near enough impossible. Now for the service, or shall i say lack of it? The waitress was completely incompetent we had to ask twice for condiments (which then arrived half way though our meal), we had to ask twice for drinks which never even arrived but miraculously made it on the bill and when questioning this we received no apology just a vacant stare as if to question us and make us feel as though we are being difficult for bringing it up. Then once we received the amended bill it had not only your usual 20% vat but then an additional 5% vat added on and when we questioned this we got a reply of... I dunno the pub has to give that to someone else i think? If I am paying additional VAT as a customer i have a right to know what it is for and your staff should know what it is for. All in all shocking beyond belief and such a shame as we loved this place once...
Read moreGreat visit, really nice pub all refitted and very comfortable with lots of nice seating area in bars then the wonderful "restaurant" seating area plus an extensive outdoor covered terrace so what's not to like?
Menu looked great and all we had in our group got a big thumbs up. My pick was fishcake with poached egg hollandaise on top. Tasted the Spring Veg Risotto which too was scrumptious and top drawer.
Beer selection was good with pub priding itself on reasonably local beers but although there were FIVE real ales to choose from (Dorking Brewery One at £5.60 a pint was favourite) We were minded to suggest a bit more thought here is needed the ales were (at my visit) all very much the same style. At least an Old Ale/Stout or Porter might be switched with one of the ordinary ales to widen the style offering.) The House Ale (from St Austell @ £5.00 a pint) is only 3.4% which indicates a quaffer but no big flavour.
Loos were superb and very clean better indeed than commonly found.
Staff were all welcoming and most efficient making our visit a real pleasure. Even the local Vicar visiting for lunch enjoyed his meal "very much" he said!
Make a visit you will not be disappointed, we are on our...
Read moreI was in two minds to come here as the reviews on Google were good, but not so great on Tripadvisor. But I liked the look of its old fashioned country pub charm. Unfortunately Tripadvisor was more accurate. I don’t recall ever having to wait half and hour for a pint in a pub before. I spent over £100 and left here annoyed regretting it. The food came fairly quickly (maybe a bit too quick) but the drinks took forever, and in one case, despite asking twice, never came at all. The fish and chips was nice, but the £25 roast was pretty dire. The meat was ok although not much of it, potatoes you could break your teeth on, bitter yorkshire puddings, bitter veg. It’s obviously all being ruined as its kept warm. When paying for the bill I mentioned that a drink never came, they said it was not on the bill, but when checking it was on the bill, and £3 more than the price in the menu. So I would take care and review your bill in here before paying. Will not go again. One thing if you are thinking of coming here, it seemed to be more restaurant than pub, with not much of a bar area. And all the tables had cutlery and napkins on them. Maybe that is just for...
