I have been here twice, once when the eat out to help scheme out was on in summer and then again this weekend. Both times the food has been good. There is a good choice of food on the regular menu as well a nice specials board, all at a very reasonable price. This weekend however we were left a little disappointed. The salt and pepper chicken as a starter lacked the main ingredient ... salt, and the amount of chicken pieces you got was small, even for a starter. The garlic mushrooms however were absolutely lovely, again needed a little bit more salt, but the flavour was lovely and a decent portion size. Everyone in our group opted for the Sunday roast, I had a mix of chicken and lamb. It which was very flavoursome, the lamb was a bit fatty but that's the risk with lamb. My husband opted for chicken. For some reason they missed the mashed potato from his plate and stuffing off mine. We asked regarding the potatoes and they kindly brought them out for us. The main reason for the lack of the 5th star is the attentiveness of the staff. We had to ask twice to order our mains before a member of staff took our order. No one saw empty drinks glasses and thought to ask if we wanted any more. Nobody even asked if everything was OK with the food, we had to collar the waiter while he was clearing another table to ask for the mash. When we did order some more drinks they forgot, so we had to ask again, which was met with an excuse that the til wasn't sending orders through to the bar, this may have been the case but surely the waitresses who took the order should have noticed we hadn't been served our drinks. After finishing our meal we asked for the dessert menu. We ended up leaving before having dessert because we waited and waited for someone to take our order but the waitresses were too busy chatting with each other to see if we wanted anything. It's a shame because we all would have had a dessert and a liqueur coffee which would have left us happy and the pub with an extra £20-30 on top of the bill. To sum up - the food is good, bar the few little bits and reasonably priced but the service left much...
Read morePopped in just for food as I have run Marstons pubs myself, so I thought it would be good. I had the honey chicken wings which were so salty I nearly drank edisford bridge river dry. My husbands starter was the same and he left it. After being put in a dark corner, even though the pub was nearly empty, we made our way to the bar to be met by the most unhappiest bar maid I have ever seen. She looked so scruffy and and it was the sour look on her face that made our decision just to have starters. When we arrived at the pub, there was empty glasses outside, these where still there when we left, even though the scruffy tattooed barmaid was doing nothing apart from making herself look more miserable and twiddling her thumbs behind the bar. She could have been, stocking fridges, wiping tables down, wiping the beer spills down off the bar etc, but she just stood there looking down right miserable. There was lip stick on my wine glass and my husbands pint was flat due to the lazy scruffy barmaid putting it in a warm glass. Apparently this wasn't the case. "The glass had just been washed". So it will obviously still be wet and warm. I really think you need to use less salt in your food and also train your bar staff how to wash glasses, pour a proper pint and put a smile on there face and dress in appropriate manner. We will not be...
Read moreCame here with a camping group, booked end of August, sadly booking wasn't sent through to new manager. She said she'd fit us in 17 of us. Asked us to pre ordered food in the morning. Came for dinner and only 16 places not a problem but a bit squashed. Service was excellent, one young waitress on and she was amazing.... Food was excellent and they worked really hard for us in a busy pub.... Come to pay and the bill on some of the food was more expensive than then menu said. 12.95 for a steak pudding and was charged 18.... 6.25 for started and was charged 6.95 Questioned and she said it was a larger pudding however we weren't informed. She precessed to say...you pre-ordered and I accommodated you! She said the puddings were bigger and not regular size and if we hadn't pre ordered she would have told us...our bill ended up £15 more expensive than we expected over the group. She said she'd knock off the deserts for the two couples who had been charged extra which she did but when I paid the balance and got a receipt they were still on there. We spent around £700 between us all in the pub over the whole weekend... So am undone she tried to con us. Sad really as the food and service...
