Mumbai Kitchen — Restaurant in Rochdale

I had to do this review quickly while it was still fresh on my mind.......

First time ordering, set meal for two, poppadoms, red onions, mango chutney and mild sauce, Onion bhaji, samosas, Tikka masala, lamb Tikka naga, rice and naan.....

Poppadoms fresh, crispy. Red onion's great standard, mild sauce generic run of the mill. I don't do mango chutney so I can't mention this....

Starters. Lovely Onion bhaji's! No stale microwaved messes like 90% of takeaways try sending out to people. Fresh, crisp batter but still moist onions, lovely spice mix!... Samosas!.... Just WOW! WITHOUT a doubt the best samosas I've had all year (and I eat a lot of desi and BIR food). Perfectly spiced and seasoned keema filling, with a perfectly crisp pastry!

Mains. Mrs loved her Chicken Tikka Masala. I can't comment on this, as it's not my type of curry. But she said it's the nicest she's had in a long time! Lamb Naga. A really unique take on a naga base compared to other venues! A light fragrance of possibly mint to it? Slightly sweet on the tongue. And a beautiful Bangladeshi kick of naga pickle!

All served with fresh salad, lemon and picked chillies.

Pro's: All around the best delivery we've had in a few months. Generous portions. Best samosas I've had all year. Stunning naga base sauce. Speedy delivery l. Just all around a great experience.

(Constructive) Cons: The naan bread was good. But it was a generic naan mix you can get most places. The lamb in my Naga was on the slightly chewy side. Maybe pre-cook a little low and slow to avoid this? But still edible, and the sauce made up for it.

Would I order...

Up until a few weeks ago this would have been a 5 star review as the food was consistently good. However, the last order I placed wasn’t the best. Onion Baji’s were very dry and rubbery, Chicken pakora - these were the main reason for my weekly orders, on this occasion 3 out of the 5 pieces were completely inedible, very tough. Tikka masala was nice, but again the chicken was inedible. Majority of the food was thrown away.

On a plus point though, the service is good and they call you to tell you it’s ready, everything is packed well and they have an open kitchen so you can see the food being prepared, nice clean environment as well.

I dare say that if I’d have called them to explain the food issues then they’d have rectified it in some way, I will try them again in the future but I’ll be having a break for the time being.

I think they may have changed some of their ingredients due to rising costs, ordered a curry (this was lovely), chicken pakora although edible has a different batter now and not very nice compared to previous, the popadoms however tasted off and smelled like plastic, very off putting, onion bajis were inedible and also thrown away, such a shame as I used to really enjoy going...

After a hiccup last week and I left a negative review with a bit of anger included in the review, However we have just had a delivery of food from the establishment ( the owner called me midweek because they care and that means the world) The food was absolutely 1st class tasty fresh and hot I must retract my indifferent review because this food was just amazing my Phall sauce was perfect full of flavour and heat you could not have done more guys as this was pretty much perfect especially as a delivery I will 109% be a regular customer from now on I think everyone deserves a second chance regardless and I’m so glad we gave you the opportunity to prove just how good you actually are it’s brilliant keep up the fine food and service and you will go far thanks again to each &...
