Update 27/2/25 Popped in for pre dinner drinks place not changed but I noted they are changing the name to the Blackstone Edge Inn ! Restaurant still devoid of many customers maybe a rebrand ? Note to owners bit of a clue drive up the hill a bit and check a proper place to eat , you have a long way to go before your place compares to this
First time at the Moorcock We went on a Sunday afternoon . Bar looked great busy car park but as we walked through into the “ restaurant “. A big change it looked like a cafe not a restaurant. Staff service very poor lots of younger staff very slow . Food simple I ordered Sunday lunch beef option lady ordered steak pie couple of drinks and a bill of £58 ! Not best for money . Beef cooked well but veg very minimal few scraps of cabbage sticks of carrot and a blob of mash not very good. York pud crispy but gravy very small amount . One plus was freshly baked cauliflower cheese. As per pics we won’t be back the lady with short hair was great but rest staff very poor leaving us with a feeling of never to return . Poor service , average food and the place was cold many customers sat eating with coats on ! Very disappointed should have gone to our usual a mile up the hill never disappointed at that place or many others . Lots of good reviews no idea why as food was definitely average, service poor and surroundings devoid of any character or atmosphere…. I think two...
Read moreGreat overnight stay at this comfortable accommodation. Ihad the twin room (curlew) with single occupancy, definitely snug but with amazing views and very comfortable beds. Tea/coffee facilities and special mention for the beautifully appointed bathroom and shower ensuite. Food in the restaurant was excellent, if a little on the higher price end. Have to mention that I found the breakfast menu ordering system very strange, felt very pressured to make a decision on the "tick" box sheet and when i did, the young lady followed me and told me that I "Could only pick one as they are individual meals and quite large" . She acquiesced that I "could have the porridge and toast, but not the cooked breakfast as well ". As a seasoned traveller who had stayed in four different places that week, I felt quite embarrassed, and feel that the tick box system needs to clarify the requirements much more clearly. Having said this, my porridge and toast was delicious and the breakfast staff were lovely. Very comfortable stay. Also note it was exceptionally quiet...
