My partner and I went to The Laughing Pear café this morning for the first time (since the original place changed ownership), to have one of their enticing full English breakfasts. Everything about our experience here was just perfect, from the warm friendly welcome, smooth-running, caring and efficient service, to the top quality food which was beautifully cooked, generously portioned and nicely presented (on pre-warmed plates) and which we enjoyed to the full with the added reassuring knowledge that all their basic ingredients are sourced from farms and butchers of high reputation. The barn café itself has a lovely rustic cosy farmhouse style interior, and was positively thriving with eager customers soon after its prompt 9 a.m opening - obviously proving its popularity and well-deserved ongoing success. Despite the behind-the-scenes kitchen team members being increasingly challenged with many different yet concurrent breakfast orders, (which, in other eateries would inevitably be the cause of lengthy waiting times), our food order was taken, cooked and presented to perfection and delivered to the table in remarkably swift time. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast experience at The Laughing Pear, and without hesitation rate it 10/10! Thank you to all the lovely staff involved today. Wishing you all much continued success and all the very best...

This review is for a buffet catered for my daughter’s wedding reception.

First of all, Katie is lovely and easy to talk to. We told her what we wanted and asked for recommendations that she thought would suit. We sorted everything out quickly and were happy with all our choices. She made it really easy.

On the evening they arrived on time to deliver food, nipped in and out of venue really quickly after laying everything out perfectly and asking whether we wanted food unwrapped or left for a while.

We had no idea what the food would be like, only going by recommendations.

The food was excellent, could not be faulted in any way, and with so much of everything and such good quality with high standards. Everyone at the wedding commented on how good it was compared to many buffet receptions and asked for their contact details.

So thank you Katie and all of your Laughing Pears😂. We would not hesitate in recommending you to anyone. You made it a night to remember for all...

Went here for the 1st time recently and the food was LOVELY but reason for 3 stars mainly because of these reasons; 1- it's loud, if you're looking for a quiet breakfast, I wouldn't recommend. Me and my partner had to repeat ourselves to eachother a couple of times where it was quite noisy. Not a total put off but not ideal. 2- they have lovely big mugs for tea but where they are big, 1 tea bag just doesn't seem enough. I asked for another teabag so I could make it stronger, which it did help but then see on my bill I got charged for it, £1.95! I then complained and said they still have to charge £1 for it! I couldn't believe it... £1 for a teabag! Probably paid not much more for bulk buy of them at wholesalers, me and my partner were shocked but he just settled up and paid. We should've been notified of the extra charge before being given the teabag.

Apart from that, food was lovely, I'll just remember to bring an extra tea bag...

While visiting England for the first time and staying nearby, my fiance and I had the pleasure of dining at the Laughing Pear twice - I wish we went more. This is hands down the best place to get an authentic English Breakfast in Essex. The photo attached to this review is the "Laughing Pear Breakfast" with a side of Bubble & Squeak. The food is presented as if a master-class chef did it up, and it's delicious and filling. Neither of the time we came here did we have a problem, and we talked to Tony the first time about good places to sight-see and visit in Southend. The wait staff are extremely professional, quick, and helpful, and the food was delicious. Did I say it was delicious? I'm back in America now and I dream about eating here again.

I go here regularly and love it. I take friends here. I go on my own. I go with my family. We go for breakfast, or lunch, or just coffee. Rain or shine (they now have a lovely decking area). Always a really friendly welcome and great service. And exceptional food. I love the avocado smash and poached eggs on sour bread. We love the chicken burger and sweet potato fries. My friends love the hot chocolate. Recently I asked Katie to do a buffet spread for a party at home. It was AMAZING! Everyone loved it. so much choice including lots of 'veggie' options which were actually eaten by everyone. I've just ordered their homemade sausage rolls, made with local meat, for another gathering as they went down so well.

Id give this place a 3.5 stars based on what I ate but theres no 3.5 option therefore a 4 stars. Pros Great service! Food comes out quite quick Fries and hashbrowns with truffle absolutely delicious! Clean overall Cons The capuccino while not bad for UK standards still not the best, perhaps a 3/5 My main meal was a chicken wrap and the chicken lacked flavour. It was quite bland and tastless. It wasnt unedible, in fact I did finish it as I was hungry however whoever cooked it needs to season the chicken more. Overall I would come back and try something different, theres more pros than cons and im hoping the rest of their mains are as tasty as their sides!
