Stopped in on way through to Hastings really nice friendly staff inside a pleasure to talk to, very polite.
Excellent selection of beers and ales and ciders. Decided to settle on an elderflower cider, most refreshing.
Settled in for food, went down hill rapidly sadly, starter was supposed to be breaded mushrooms unfortunately, tasted like supermarket frozen battered, disappointing.
My colleague and myself had ordered steaks with onion rings and salad for our mains. They had ran out of sirloin (top price menu item) so had to settle for rump option instead. We both ordered our steaks cooked medium, and placed our orders together.
The steaks that we received were very strange looking cuts, and, cooked completely differently. My colleagues looked like a end of a sunday joint and mine was not like any rump ive ever had, not the end of the world. I understand that places can get unexpectedly busy at times and things run out
I would not say though it was packed inside at time of visit and tbf... just tell me your out of all steaks, I would have just ordered something else...
Unfortunately when my steak arrived, it was so well done, i had to saw it heavily with a steak knife, and baste it in mayonnaise and ketchup sachets to be able to swallow it... To much enjoyment to my colleague who was watching my demise and making tennis elbow jokes, honestly it was really over cooked, no mosture in it at all, but not burnt. My colleagues "steak", was more rare than medium much to his enjoyment. Normally we would order rare steaks in a place that we trust. Perhaps someone was missing part of thier roast joint we joked!?
Rather strange for two steaks that should have been cooked together at the same time for the same length?
Its not the worst food ive ever had and filled a whole after a days walking about, but honestly, whats the point of asking how you want your steak done in the first place and then cook the life out of it anyway.
It had a slight strange taste on one end of the cut, i want to mention, im not sure what the cause was of it, perhaps the grill had a bit of something else left on it or perhaps it was over cooked to mask the taste of something, i can only speculate.
I considered not eating it, and for a few seconds contemplated just eating the chips, had i not been quite hungry, I went to work with the knife and cleared the plate with out touching the salad.
The salad that came with the steak had an orange slice on it!? Idk, not really something i would choose to have with steak or a salad overall to be fair!?
Perhaps other items on the menu are much better, and we just got unlucky with ours, judge for yourself, i can only speak for what we had.
Its not the worst food tbf, but definitely not worth the money we paid for it we felt. Tbh i could have bought a steak from Asda with fries n peas for the price and done a better job.
I think you should always be given something in a restaurant that is a level above what you can make at home.
Would come back for the beers but sadly not the food. Service was prompt and polite. Wanted to give to give a 3 star but over heard a elderly group near us had not enjoyed their meals also, something about the chips i believe.
Pool table was noted and nice memorabilia of people enjoying visits...
Read moreSuch a lovely pub so it is a shame to post this but hopefully it helps. We went on Sunday for a family lunch and quite honestly, the worst pub lunch I have ever had and I have had many. We sat in the garden as it was a beautiful day and our 4 year old loves the play area. They do not serve the garden so when you order food you are issued with a buzzer that will go off when your food is ready and you then walk inside to collect your food…not a bad system in theory but diabolical in practice. Our buzzer went off so we walked inside to a tray full of mains when we were still waiting for starters, the girl said sorry it’s for someone else, so off we went back to the garden. The buzzer went again, so we again went inside and this time it was our starters, so we lifted the trays and took them outside, served all parties and I sat down to eat… when the buzzer went again… I went inside to check and there were our mains to which I said we have literally just got our starters so not ready yet. She huffed and took them back to the kitchen. Luckily I had a cold starter so didn’t phase me too much. As instructed, when we were finished our starters we put all back on the tray and took inside to advise we are ready for mains… fearful that they were just going to heat up our meals from half an hour ago and call us we were happy when it took too long for that to be the case. Eventually the mains were ready and we collected them… I wish we hadn’t, the food was awful, cold, hard and the roast potatoes were dead from being reheated so many times. The veggies were dead too, so overcooked we could not eat them. Finally the Yorkshire pudding was like a rock and their knives were no match! Hopefully they just had a bad day but the service was not great and the food was so awful, we all felt a little unwell for the rest of the day! I have worked and eaten in many pubs and sorry to say but that was by far the worst ever, even a slightly over cooked breakfast at...
Read moreA lovely friendly pub. Very rarely do catering establishments successfully blend the varied roles of pub, restaurant and venue. But the Robin Hood does this. The front bar is warm, cosy and ideal for a drink with friends. It has a wide array of local cider and beer as well as international brands. There's a pool table and a lovely open fire for winter evenings. And you can enjoy traditional English pub grub in the bar area. Moving back through the building you have a quieter restaurant area. Here you can get traditional pub grub plus more unusual dishes. I had haggis, neeps and tats. They offer a special 2 course menu for £10 ranging to special steak nights. The deserts are superb and all home made. To the rear is a larger restaurant/small venue. I've run successful fund raising evenings here and they also cater for birthdays/weddings/funerals and other important life events. Very nicely laid out it's as if you are in a tent and at night there's a myriad of small lights to add atmosphere. This are also offers an outside patio. And finally there's a massive garden with stunning views of Fairlight Down. This is a family run pub with a big community heart that is well...
