Having what appears to have been recently taken over of a large overhaul, this lovely pub located just shy of Rye offers a comprehensive choice on their breakfast menu. Being able to sit large groups or smaller tables if required, food ordered were taken quickly and food arrived in good time and Hot! Staff were very accommodating and friendly and the coffee I ordered was smooth and great to taste. I choose the mega breakfast which lives upto its name. A good selection of items and the bacon was amazing. Only downside, I couldn’t swap out my mushrooms but this appears to be generally the case these days no matter where you go. A good choice if visiting or escaping the packed smalls pubs in nearby Rye

Would highly recommend. Such a lovely pub. We felt extremely welcome the moment we set foot through the door. The waitress was lovely! So helpful and cheerful. Food was amazing - Portions were really decent for a reasonable price & very enjoyable. The pub garden was in the middle of a renovation when we visited but the patio that was finished was absolutely beautiful. Such a lovely place to sit and enjoy a cold one. I'd love to see it once it's all finished. Dog and child friendly too.

We stopped for some lunch, the food was lovely and the portions substantial. Ploughman's lunches were served on a wooden board/tray and had plenty of bread pickle's and ham or cheese. Sausage egg and chips was also a large portion with 3 sausages, two eggs and crinkle cut chips. The only thing that we wasn't happy about is that apparently because of a lot of wasps about the doors could not be opened. They need to get some fans if this is a common occurrence.

Phoned to book table for 12 o'clock as birthday treat for my elderly mum, when we arrived we walked in , there was a man at the bar who said can't you see we aren't open lights aren't on , this was just gone 12 , I said I had booked table for 12 o'clock which he denied ! Then told fryer broken don't know when it will be fixed , as I had left my telephone no when booking I was not happy as I had travelled from Bexhill to pick mum up to take her . Very miserable rude man behind bar would never go again ! Luckily we found a lovely pub in playden !!! Customer service is not high with this...

We popped into the cockerel for lunch on our way to our campsite. We weren’t disappointed. Lunch was served very quickly and was really good quality tasty food and very generous portions. We enjoyed it so much we went back twice for breakfast. Mega breakfast is exactly that and cooked really well. The omelettes are really good and again very generously portioned. Staff are really friendly and the venue is very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Prices are also very reasonable. I couldn’t recommend highly enough and will definitely return if we venture...
