The Ship Winchelsea — Restaurant in Rother

Came to Winchelsea with my girlfriend for a well deserved summer break and decided we would go out Saturday night for a nice drink and a nice meal as we was told the ship was a nice place. We arrived at the ship around half eight where we walked in with no greeting and staff were ignoring us , to wich we was abruptly told food was no longer being served after half eight? Me and my my girlfriend were treated very poorly and the staff were ready to go home before 9 on a sat night ? Me for one am very upset and annoyed the way me and my partner were treated then the stonefaced barmaid told us if we want to eat go to rye or hastings, me personally think the way me and my partner was treated is discusting and would advise anyone who is thinking of going here DON'T BOTHER ! our night has been ruined and truly think they need to contact GORDON RAMSAY cause this place...

Started bad - got better! Fault with oven caused long wait for first course, but no one troubled to explain the reason until we asked and, far worse, the waiter we spoke to made no attempt to apologise for the delay. It took 50 minutes to get two simple and quick starters - pate and seared scallops - on the table. On the plus side, the food - from the Christmas menu - was very tasty. One of the desserts in particular, the Christmas Pudding Cheesecake, was delightful. The restaurant redeemed itself further by kindly deducting the price of the desserts from the bill as compensation for the long wait, so that in the end we felt we had been fairly treated! However, at least one member of the staff needs some extra training in...

Reminds me of one of the restaurants that go on Gordon Ramsay makeover shows... vey weird theme fish restaurant mixed with american diner?! Really poor quality food, e.g. my partner ordered the bbq chicken (with salad, slaw and fries) and what came was basically a tiny chicken fillet with melted cheese and handful of salad and oven sweet potato fries, tartar sauce with red cabbage ( I guess that was slaw). The taste and presentation? Awful. Not sure how they priced it at £9-11. Luckily we could laugh it off. The menu has about 6 random things on it made worse by a rude waitress in her 60's or 70's didn't know the menu well. Safe to say there won't be a next time.
