Tough review this however i will try and be honest. Nice warm welcome and shown quickly to our table. ordered drinks and they arrived quickly. We opted for the potted brown brown shrimp and salmon with sour dough bread starter. I was very surprised when it arrived as it comprised of a small unopened tin on one plate and salad on another. I sort of assumed it would be in a pot, given the description maybe this is the latest fashion but i could not help but think the small tin resembled a tin of cat foot which did sort of taint the enjoyment of eating it. It just seemed very strange, however i ate it. We ordered the sticky beef ribs with chips and coleslaw. and again what arrived was not what i was expecting at all, for a start the sauce wasn't sticky, well not if you have had ribs in sticky sauce before, but i could cope with that. What i could not cope with was the absence of any meat on the thing at all, i honestly only managed two mouthfuls of meat from the entire dish, so much so my wife had to share half of hers so i had something to eat. I think what angered me was our seats were within ten feet of where our meals were prepared and i watched the chef fill my plate. he put the rib on then placed another piece on. when it was in front of me, i was able to see what that addition was, it was a large piece of fat, no doubt to fill the plate up, but it particularly angered me that the chef thought nothing wrong including something on my plate that was completely inedible. I would estimate two thirds of my beef dish was fat which explained why when the waitress arrived she looked quizzically as to why my meal was unfinished. So i explained. I was told i would not have to pay for my meal, to which i said. I had no intention of paying for such a meal anyway. Another lady approached me some minutes later and said she was management i think. She said she would not charge either of us for our main course which was very generous of them, she did add that this meal does routinely have a lot of fat in it. Which did irritate me a little as i should have pointed out that, my wifes meal was perfectly fine and her plate was almost empty, so she clearly had nowhere near as much fat on hers, something this lady clearly did not notice in her comment subtly suggesting that i was maybe being unreasonable or over fussy. I wasn't. If you look at my other reviews the majority...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was our first visit after an absence of ten years. What a remarkable change! We booked for Sunday lunch, where we had a choice of a limited, but ample menu, or a carvery. We were extremely impressed by the offering: two different beef cuts, pork, gammon, & turkey - all served with the traditional accoutrements of a traditional Sunday fayre. The sirloin was offered as two separate joints, a rare cut or a medium - well cut. There was a choice of beautifully roasted potatoes with a perfect 'crisp' on the skins, or a boiled potato with butter and parsley. Besides roast carrots there was an abundant offering of fresh vegetables, along with a beautiful gravy which to my joy was not from an industrial powder, but freshly made jus from the drippings. We selected a range of starters; I had the chicken liver path, with an onion chutney. My friends had fried camenbert and a large prawn cocktail with brown bread. In hindsight we simply had far too much to eat! We were all impressed by the friendliness and proactive nature of the servers. One young lady, whom I can only describe as an adorable pixie asked us on multiple occasions if we were satisfied with our meal. And I noticed how adept she was when she recognised that one lady in my party had hearing challenges. The young girl made sure to speak clearly and concisely, facing my friend to ensure she understood the menu range. It's so refreshing when you recognise a young professional server who clearly grasps the understanding that to serve does not mean servitude. Bless her socks, she'll go far in whatever career she chooses. We had a delightful day highlighted by lovely food in lovely ambiance. Mr Piddles awarded his highest accolade - four woods and four wags, embraced by a resounding "arf bark fart!" Indeed, I couldn't agree more! Highly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn Saturday the 5th of August I was lucky enough to visit the Squirrel Pub with my friend, her mum and dad and her mum's brother. As we had never been before we had no idea what to expect but I can 100% assure people you will not be disappointed if you are lucky enough to dine there. We were seated quickly and our waitress took our drinks order returning shortly afterwards with the drinks. She took our food order and off she went, as each course arrived (with the perfect amount of time between each one) we were all in agreement that each and everyone of them were OUTSTANDING in that they were all perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, perfectly portioned, cooked with care and attention from a team that obviously enjoy and love their work and understand the importance of seasonal products, timings and attention to detail. I was that impressed with my starter and main course that I couldn't decide between two deserts so I ordered both. What was even more impressive was whilst serving us they also had two very large groups dining at the same time as us and they could of easily paid us less attention while dealing with the larger groups but no we were extremely well looked after. My friend and I are hoping to dine there again in a couple of weeks if they have the availability but I assure you we will definitely dine at the Squirrel Pub again, it's one of those places that you want to keep a secret but realise that others deserve the right to experience it too.
Many thanks to all of the staff for the excellent service and...
