The Marquis is very close to where I live and my family and I have visited it many times over the years. My choice of food on various occasions has been the carvery because it is normally delicious but just lately we have noticed a slip in their standards. Only last week the vegetables on the carvery were undercooked and very hard but this place is our local so we thought it might be a one off mistake and went back this week to try something else. This time around I chose the halloumi salad which only had five ingredients, halloumi, lettuce, croutons, grated cheese and a tiny amount of salad dressing. Perhaps some people would expect tomatoes, cucumber and various other basic salad items with this dish but they were all missing. When I asked the waitress where the other items were she said it is normally served like this so I guess that this is what you will receive for £9 from there if you like salad. Personally though I think I will be visiting alternative establishments who can make a much better job of it.

Great place, went at 1pm threw the week and not too busy. From the time of ordering food to the time of getting it was about 10mins, which is Fantastic. It was red hot, chips were not dry or burnt like most place and the steak pie was filled to the brim with very large pieces of steak and best of all it's on the 2 for £8.99. Well worth a try for a pie lover or someone hungry. Place was nice and warm, felt really cozy. Tables are spread out to a good floor plan so everyone's not on top of each other. And the staff are very pleasant and always smiling. They go that little bit extra and bring hot drinks to the table for you and ours even gave me a free pot of Garvey extra. Might not seem much to everyone but all the little things count and it's what makes a place not just good but great. I will be going back soon as it's cheap but definitely not nasty. Try for your self...! Thanks

Me and my partner went to the carvery here, the queue to be served was a half hour wait at least, and when we got served they had run out of Yorkshire puddings(which we'd paid extra for) and out of gravy, the food we did have was ok, but by the time we sat down to eat the DRY Sunday dinner, we had had enough so asked for our food boxing up(so we could put gravy on at home), the box was brought to the table and I had to scrape my food into it, in the middle of the over crowded restaurant, which was embarrassing as it was a messy job. I believe it must have been overbooked, because you could turn for the amount of people running around. Real shame because most of the staff seemed absolutely lovely, but really rushed off their feet - just seems like a case of poor planning. Unfortunately we will not be back for another visit.

Absolutely appalling customer service!! My little lads 10th birthday was ruined. We rang up on the Monday to book a big table of 20, the lady on the phone took our name and mobile number and said we were booked in. We turned up on the Wednesday to find nothing was booked! -all 20 of us stood there but my boy didn't want to go anywhere else as they have the wacky warehouse too for all his cousins to play in. We felt like no one actually cared and the staff actually seemed annoyed at us, we were told to get a drink from the bar whilst she 'threw some tables together' In the end we were placed in the function room (which we were told before that it was set up for a different function) Then we're told that we were to book together as it 'might come out together' then. from then on we were left to it to sort out our seating, high chairs and cutlery. Most of us decided to order carvery so that it would be quicker. However this meant we were still waiting around for other meals and the children's meals to come. We all ended Up eating at different times which meant we had to wait to sing happy birthday and have a cake. At this point there were lots of hungry, tired, mardy children and lots of stressed parents! At no point we were approached or 'checked in on' or even spoke or apologised to. Will not...

There was 3 adults and 13yr old after been told there would be a 40 min wait if ordering food this was @ 5pm anyway we said OK & for the starters we had 2 chilli/cheese chips with a tiny bits of scallion spring onion & 4 very thin slithers of red chilli's in a sauce & got 7 chips in a Bowl for £3-99 it was nice But very small portion & think a bit expensive for what it was ! Then I had the large mixed grill with the up graded extra rump steak £14-99 the chicken breast was very dry & over cooked burnt on the Underside & the steak asked for medium rare that was very very Tough even the steak knife couldn't even cut it after eating the rest I asked for a takeaway box to put the chicken & the Rump steak in to bring it home the sausage/pork steak chips onion rings & peas I ate & they was nice & I enjoyed them ! I did tell one of the waiting on staff about the steak & chicken and the Response i got was well we are busy & some of the kitchen staff we're New so the dog had the chicken & Sunday i minced the Rump steak & put machine potato on it & re cooked it & it tasted a lot better than it was the night before ! My friends both had the Carvery & they said it was absolutely delicious i wish that i had it also ! I won't be having a mixed grill there again will stick to what I know in future that will...

Bad experience this time around. On entering the wacky warehouse with the grandkids looking for a table, there was food on floors, some of which had been walked through/ passed by a couple waiters / waitresses, presenting a slip hazard to customers / children. Spare tables were available but majority hadn't been cleared. Waitress apologised and cleared us a table.2 meals out of 4 were acceptable and were enjoyed, others 2 meals were very poorly cooked / presented. Kids burger was over done and clearly put together quickly, Fish, chips and peas with bread and butter was the worst I've had, peas were cold with looked to be scrapings from the side of the pan, fish was literally all batter, chips was luke warm, bread came without butter, had to break off and request butter, also no knives or forks condiments on tables, didn't realise knives were at the side of till, I thought we would have been told where these were on ordering. No follow up after starting our meal to see if everything was OK. Very poor service, some clear improvements / training needed We have previously been to the marquis without issue, especially the carvery, but clearly something has changed... ... Will at some point try again, but hope we have a better...
