A really nice cozy pub with a good menu, upon arriving everything was great and our food for the most part was really good, one member of our group ordered the fish as we’ve heard good things about it. This particular fish came and had a really strong smell and the taste made him gag, he’s not at all a picky eater and usually would not complain but everyone in the group smelt it and knew something was amiss. We complained to the waitress who headed to the kitchen and the lady in charge returned, she assured us the fish was fine and fresh, she did offer other options but at this point he was totally put off my the strong ammonia smell of the fish and the taste after trying his best to give it a chance. I’m not saying all the fish is bad I’m sure they sell loads daily and it is normally fresh but this particular one was really off. We finished our meal he left the whole of the fish, we told them how great it all was but again asked for the chef to just smell the fish as he would know right away it wasn’t right and we wouldn’t want any more bad ones slipping through and people getting sick. Then the bill arrived.. despite us complaining numerous times about the fish and it not been eaten, it was on the bill. We mentioned it politely again expressing how everything else was delicious but they refused to take it off the bill. The lady in charge in this interaction became incredibly rude, dismissive and argumentative about this. She came back to us two times upon disappearing to the kitchen in a huff saying she offered other options that we refused, to which we responded that he had truly been put off any food (it really was that bad). She dismissed us and made out we were wrong when we were already quite embarrassed about complaining. Eventually she took it off the bill but continued the rest of the interaction with a really poor, unprofessional attitude as if it was an argument when we were extremely polite through out not wanting to cause a fuss- we even paid for the portion of chips that were on the plate. This is such a shame to put a terrible end to an otherwise good evening and sadly was enough for me to leave my first negative review. If it was just the fish i would not complain but the way it was resolved was unacceptable and left us feeling like a major inconvenience that will sadly stop me from returning even though we enjoyed the rest...
Read moreThis is an amended review after reflection upon email conversations between the Robin hood inn and myself yesterday. I have had my hand forced in this and have been left with no other options on the table. I will start with this if people like food, pub food, fish and chips, pies, and burgers, and don't mind paying a tad more than normal than seriously you will not be disappointed i urge you all to try this place.
This inn is not a pub or inn like its namesake it is a restaurant that does a pub quiz on a Thursday evening. However, you will struggle to get a seat inside, and they will not let u book a table for the quiz in their own admittance they are focusing on food and are defiant in accepting any sort of constructive criticism to the point of replying with sarcasm in emails and one or 2 of the staff have a patronising and aragant attitude and a serious over done chip on there shoulder.
I was brought up knowing freedom of speech, but as soon as you walk into this restaurant, you are met tables and menus, and the awe of this is what we are we are not apologetic in this you have to put up with it or the doors behind you not a welcoming inn on a road that this looks like as you approach.
People have had things to say about the rude service of the staff and tired look of the building, and i will say have an open mind and give it a try they might have just being having a bad day but don't sell you soul if u don't agree with something don't just put up with it.
Outside there 5 or 6 pub tables and benches and on a lazy summer evening this is the place to be.
on a whole, the restaurant is an unfinished cake if u like it has great potential, but the human errors and narrow-minded staff will slow down any blossoming pleasureness of this place the simply refuse to accept they maybe wrong.
I say this, grab a pot of salt, and give this restaurant a try. The salt isn't for the food it's to take the staff with a pinch of.
oh, I end with this if u want to do this quiz, book a table for 1900 -1930 and order a starter and a pudding they won't decline u a table then and u can...
Read moreMyself & the wife called in for a meal at just after 3pm today, we were sat on table 12 & the wife ordered Scampi & I ordered a 10oz Ribeye steak with chips salad onion rings & mushroom with a Diane Sauce, I asked for my steak medium & well rested so no blood. We didn’t order any starters but waited a good 45/50 minutes for our main courses, both meals looked very well presented & that’s really the good thing about my meal, the first piece of steak I cut off was really chewy, I tried a few more bits of the steak & I was just having to swallow lumps because I could not chew it, the waitress came over to see how things were & I said this is really chewy & to be fair she offered to change it, but because we had waited so long in the first place I politely declined & said unfortunately we just don’t have the time, I tried a few more bits but I ended up having to spit it out into my hand & put back on the plate. I ate the chips & other garnish but sent back a good 85/90% of the steak, now my wife works in a very well known steak restaurant & she knows her steaks, when we asked for our bill my wife asked if it would be possible to take off the price of the steak, I was happy to pay for the chips & everything else that came with it, she said she would speak with the manager who when came to our table said that she & the chef had cut into the steak in 3 different places & it was a perfect medium, this was not my issue, the issue was you could not chew the steak but according to the manager it was cooked how I had asked for it so it had to be alright, surely you can cook a steak to how you ask for it but it could be just a bad steak. Her attitude was poor trying to talk down to me & told me nothing wrong with it so I had to pay. So payed £43.95 £26 plus £4 for a sauce for something I could not eat. I think a course on man management would not go a miss. We will never go in this pub again even though it’s on...
