Very disappointed with our experience. We have been many times over the years with the different teams taking over and this was quite possibly the worst meal i have ever had.

The reason it’s not a 1 star is because my son ate his food and said it was ok, although the taste was very bland and he was starving before we went

The starters we had were actually okay but there was an hour wait for 4 main courses after this and the restaurant was completely empty. The worst part is my steak, mushrooms, peppers were all stone cold when the plate came out, the only hot plate was my sons pizza so the rest had clearly been sat on the side while the pizza cooked.

There is absolutely no excuse for food to take an hour and then be stone cold when it comes out.

The fish and chips we have had in the past hardly fit on the plate. The fish that we got served on sunday could probably have passed as a taster dish it was that small and for the price you’d expect a proper fish, not a small square shaped battered slice of fish.

Service was fine, however for such a lovely looking pub/restaurant? Not sure what to class it as, I was a bit shocked that knifes and forks were just piled up on the table instead of laid out for us all. Little details like that matter for customers and it takes 2 seconds

It’s a real shame and we have had some lovely meals in the past when it was ran by...

Very disappointing meal and greeting tonight. We had booked a table a couple of months ago for birthday celebrations but on arrival were initially made to feel very unwelcome by the manageress. She was brusque to the point of rudeness! Asking who had allowed us to sit at the table reserved for us! We were then informed that there would be a 45 minute wait for food as they had a large party of people in. However, there was still empty tables within the pub and they accepted people walking in on speck for a meal. As we were there with a group of friends, we decided to order and wait, but instead of 45 minutes, it was almost 2 hours before the food appeared! A ridiculous amount of time to wait for a meal when the establishment had known about our booking for a number of weeks! They obviously need to manage their staff and resources more efficiently! The lasagne was overdone and dry - it had obviously been left under heat for too long and was stuck to the dish, fries which looked like McCain rather than chunky home cut chips as expected, like on a previous visit and a rather disappointing treacle sponge! The meal was, at best, average. The friendly barman was the only highlight of the evening! A real shame! The Masons is the closest pub to our homes, but I think we will be taking our business...

Seriously impressed. We went to the masons on Thursday for something to eat. We’ve been before and remember the pub is well decorated and has a slightly up-market feel. The pub was very quiet when we visited with two young lads serving at the bar. The menus we were given were on printer paper and the table numbers have been hand written on masking tape affixed to the tables. The menu appeared quite basic and seriously under-priced. We were therefore quite skeptical about the food and expected it be low quality and not in keeping with the up market look and feel of the masons… How wrong we were! The food had quite clearly all been freshly prepared and made from scratch in the kitchen. The portion sizes were very generous. While this is by no means haute cuisine, it was by far and away one of the best homemade pub meals I’ve had in a long time. From our experience it appears to us that the masons has recently changed management. Which hopefully explains the lack of proper menus and table numbers. While they are finding their feet I’d recommend anyone wanting a great quality and generously portioned meal pay a visit immediately! We had 2 started and 2 mains and had change from £30 - not often you can say that in...

Our restaurant visit this week was to The Masons Arms in Thorpe Hesley which is on the way to Sheffield where we go to watch the ice hockey. This Destination pub has recently been refurbished and have new tenants who are very welcoming. There is a small beer garden with cosy heated sheds which I'm sure are lovely to sit and enjoy a drink. It was a Saturday lunchtime and they offer a great set price menu for 1,2 or 3 courses. We all opted for 2 courses as none of us could quite manage a desert. Food was served quickly by the friendly waitress who was also great at giving recommendations to some of the party who were undecided as to what to have. All in all the order comprised of the following starters Chicken Skewers, Beef Tagliata, Pea and Ham Arancini and Meatballs in a garlic tomato sauce. Mains were the slow roast beef, Chicken souvlaki and the Mason's burger. I would like to return to try out the full menu that is offered of an evening. Great food and a very reasonable price, so if your ever headed out to Sheffield/Rotherham on the back roads set your sat nav to S61 2RP.

We had an unplanned visit here today for Sunday lunch. It was the first time we have been here and we were very happy with everything from the service to the food, drink and price. I had roast chicken dinner and my husband had roast pork with all the trimmings. Service was quick, efficient and friendly. The food was lovely, tasty and plentiful. My husband had apple and blackberry crumble with custard, I was too full to face a pudding. The toilets are clean and accessible. The car park is right outside the main entrance. Apparently dogs are welcomed. We will definately visit again.
