We’ve visited the newly refurbished Bear a few times recently, mainly in the warm weather to sit in the lovely garden.
Staff are very friendly and welcoming and the decor / ambience really nice. The food is nicely cooked and fresh and while not particularly haute cuisine is perfectly lovely for lunch or a casual supper - nicely presented and well cooked above average pub grub.
However the thing that has sold this as one of our favourite pubs locally is the attitude of one particular staff member last month when something was amiss with one of our lunch meals.
He (the taller guy with black hair and beard) swiftly sorted the problem out and went out of his way to ensure we were happy with the resolution. His professional and patient manner was hugely appreciated and has secured us as regulars!
Customer service and fairness counts for so very much nowadays in a crowded and competitive market - many other local businesses would do well to replicate the Bears business model and professional attitudes.
Oh, and they have a fab quiz and live music night regularly too, along with a very pretty garden…roll on lazy summer nights spent there!
Thanks again, Nina,...
Read moreHave to say, whilst the food is lovely in the most part, the service has been super slow - over an hour to get food (it was quiet when ordered), another 25 mins for just a little gravy for my son's meal and missing ice cream from his pudding.
The Bear has a lot of potential and the offers are great, but it needs work to be an enjoyable experience. The staff that are here are polite and apologetic, but they can't help there isn't enough of them to provide a better service.
I even had to queue for 25 minutes just to pay my bill (Which was also wrong and i had to correct). As before, the guy behind the bar was very apologetic, but two floor staff to cover the bar and table service on a night with not one but two good offers on is a recipe for disaster. When I mentioned that he should pass on my feedback, he said the boss knew but left anyway.
What was supposed to be an Easter treat has left me deflated and stressed with bored and hungry kids. None of us will be in a hurry to return I'm afraid which is such a shame because there is so much...
Read moreReally nice pub, staff are lovely. We went to see a band and it was absolutely sweltering, felt so sorry for the staff behind the busy bar some looked physically sweltered. Were told due to neighbours complaints they can't open doors and windows. Not sure how safe that is in summer for customers or staff. The band had to finish set early due to neighbour noise complaint. This is mostly an issue with people choosing to live by a pub and complaining, the pub are trying their best to respect neighbours, but couldn't help but feel comfort of customers and safety was compromised by this and maybe the pub needs to push back a bit. If its an ongoing case maybe better air con or something because the heat felt almost unsafe inside with no ventilation. And pubs have curfews for noise, so to cut off a set early too.
Other than this is a great pub and just wouldn't want...
