Just bad, really really bad.
The fryers are always down, 2 people in my party wanted fish so where disappointed when ordering, because no one said 'the fryer isn't working so these items are off the menu' either on entry (table had been booked), nor a simple sign. Why let people agonise over which food item they wish to experience today, why keep it a secret until order time.
The food that was ordered arrived quickly but was luke warm at best, maybe cook it longer than 5 minuets over a candle. I had vegetarian pie and the crust was far too thick and the bottom was soggy along with parts of it being raw. How could you mess up something that is made off site? Find a new supplier because it was inedable.
All in all pretty standard fayre at this place, and I doubt it'll improve. I've been forced to frequent this establishment one too many times now (normally several times a year). In 30 years it hasn't improved, I think it's safe to say I've given them a fair crack of the whip. Never going back.
At least the staff were friendly and the place was busy (wont be for long if our meal was atypical. Though in fairness either we have rotten luck or this was just the norm).
Facilities (aka toilets), pray you dont need to use them. The disabled toilet looked like someone used the sink to defecate in. No soap (not that you'd want to use the sink), the toilet rocks so you feel as if you are going to fall off and always has, the sink has been leaking for years (this place is the reasons Severn Trent call a hose pipe ban. Water is just gushing out of this sink). I went in to the ladies to wash my hands, it to was disgusting. Dust, cobwebs and other detritus. If that has built up I don't feel confident that the actual toilets, sinks, taps, door handles etc have been cleaned.
My recommendation would be to steer clear...
Read moreDuring our visit, we opted for the carvery, and it was a choice well made.
From the moment we entered, the ambiance was inviting. The pub is set in a scenic location by the water, which adds to its charm. The interior is cozy, with a blend of rustic and modern decor that creates a comfortable atmosphere suitable for both family meals and casual gatherings.
The carvery itself was a highlight. The selection of meats was impressive, with succulent cuts of turkey, beef, and gammon available. Each was cooked to perfection—juicy, tender, and full of flavour. The staff at the carving station were friendly and generous with the portions, making sure we had our fill of whichever meats we preferred.
The variety of sides was equally pleasing. There were plenty of freshly cooked vegetables, including crispy roast potatoes, fluffy mashed potatoes, and a selection of seasonal vegetables. The Yorkshire puddings were large and airy, providing the perfect vessel for the rich, savoury gravy that was available in abundance. For those who enjoy their sauces, there were plenty of options.
The service throughout our visit was attentive and efficient, with the staff ensuring that our needs were met without being intrusive. Despite being busy, the pub maintained a relaxed pace, allowing us to enjoy our meal at leisure.
In summary, The Waterside - Pub & Carvery offers an excellent carvery experience with a good balance of quality, variety, and value. It’s a great spot for anyone looking to enjoy a traditional meal in a...
Read moreIt was really bad… really really bad. Had to que up for over half an hour to get the roast.. the potatoes tasted old like re heated re cooked re fried whatever just like licking a church floor. Got a scrap of a Yorkshire. No gravy to go with gammon. Poor guy was basically alone doing the carvery so it took ages as you had kids serving themselves and fighting with their mum about what veg they’re not having. Food really was bad I’m so sorry but I’d love this place to be better because it’s on the doorstep! We didn’t book and that was fine but no seating so had to sit outside. No knife and fork once we got to the table. Food was cold by the time we had knife and fork. I couldn’t cut the meat I gave up and didn’t eat much at all. Cauliflower cheese was just cauliflower with cheese thrown at it and it tasted of metal. Worst meal I’ve ever had. I felt like I went out and some money fell out my pocket or someone robbed me. Really sad we had one day off this week and we went here.I’m even sadder to write such a review. Also the self service of drinks and keeping a table and queuing for food doesn’t work when there’s two of you, you have to que with your drinks because you have to pay for the carvery ticket and show it at...
