Rowley Village restaurant — Restaurant in Sandwell

As always the food was excellent however we were gobsmacked when we got the bill. 6 of us had 2 soft drinks each, a starter and a curry plus a Naan each and the bill came to £172!! We were charged £9.80 for 6 poppadoms!!! £27 for 6 soft drinks is ridiculous! Really disappointed as the service was good and the staff were friendly but no way was the meal and drinks worth £172. We probably won’t be going back because of the cost alone which is a shame as we have always enjoyed the food from there. EDIT - I just want to reply to the extremely rude, offensive and downright lies posted by the restaurant in reply to my honest assessment of my visit last night. We were asked if we wanted poppadoms once we sat down and we asked for 1 each. The poppadoms are listed on the menu at 0.70 pence each. We DID NOT ask for a chutney tray or any special dips but these were put on the table when our poppadoms were bought out. So we were obviously charged £4.20 for the poppadoms and then £5.60 for chutney and dips that we did not ask for or use all of. With regards to drinks - we had 4 cokes (pints) and 2 lemonades (pints)(the lemonade was as flat as a pancake but that is irrelevant). To charge £4.50 for a pint of any soft drink is scandalous. That is nearly double what I would expect to pay in any similar establishment or any pub. In the first round of drinks we did have 2 1/2 pints of Cobra and expect to pay a higher price for those but not so for soft drinks. drinks added up to £63.30 and we only had 2 each. None of us had 'special dishes' or 'special sides' as the restaurant has commented, we had 2x prawn puree starters, 2 Veg Pakora starters, 1 Veg samosa starter and 1 sheesh kebab starter. starters added up to £30.50 Main meals were 2 chicken tikka masala, 1 Chicken Tikka Mattar, 1 Chicken Pasanda, 1 chicken Korma and 1 sirloin steak English meal. We all had Naan 1 Naan bread each and a portion of chips between us. We didn't have any rice - let alone 'special' rice as the restaurant has commented. main meals added up to £60.00 and sides added up to £18.50. Nothing 'Special' about any of that. I have commented that the food and service was excellent and if you have money to burn then this is the place for you as you will get a good meal. However, if like us, you are looking for somewhere to go to celebrate a birthday then you can get the same standard of 'luxury' any any other local establishment for a lot less money. I've not been here for a few years but went back there this evening to order a takeaway, and as always very welcoming and friendly staff, Prices are slightly higher than any other Indian restaurant around the area but food was very nice. Next time I will be making a visit to eat in.

Great food, reasonable prices, a good week day offer of 3 courses for £10.95 very friendly and polite staff, never had any complaints with the food, either with delivery or dining in. personally I think it's the best Indian restaurant in the area. Staff are always willing to go out of their way for you and nothing never seems to be too much bother. they don't keep pestering you either while you're eating. I come over a couple of minutes after your food has arrived at the table just to make sure everything is ok then they leave you to it they come back every now and again to see if you need anymore drinks. We’ve ordered from here for the past 12 years and always recommend to others. So when they recently changed the chicken tikka masala it was very bland, watery, no taste and a different colour. So when I called to ask I spoke to a very helpfully gentleman who knew what I meant and for the next 3 orders he requested to chef it was cooked the old way which is far better. So when I called today someone else answered who didn’t understand what I meant put me on the phone to someone with broken English and basically told me to order from somewhere else. They were extremely rude and after 12 years of using this Indian it’s a very poor service. I understand ingredients/ recipes change and if they didn’t want to do it the old way there is a way of explaining. Definitely won’t be ordering or recommending anymore, I just hope the helpful gentleman...
