We arrived into Portnahaven, staying in a cottage on King Street and went to the 'An Tigh Siennse' bar/restaurant for a meal. The Cullen Skink was delicious. The 'puffed' prawns were to die for. That evening there was a very loud but seemly friendly 'Rangers' supporter who made his views known to all in the bar. When he learned that I was from the North of Ireland, he refused, in a smiling way, to alĺow me to talk about my Irish county of Down. He assumed I would be political! I found this extremely insulting. The next day I called into the bar with my wee deaf westie. The craic was 90, as we say in Ireland. The guinness was excellent and the locals were awesome. We shared hilarious life experiences from both Ireland and Islay. The bar was buzzing. It was hard to leave! The seafood in 'An Tigh Seinnse' is incredible but 'The Craic' and generosity from the locals is absolutely sublime! This is an amazing bar serving amazing food with the...

This bar was so good I had to go twice. The food, the drink, the company was all top notch. This establishment shines in stark contrast with other restaurants and bars on the island. Other restaurants I visited were posh with high price points. This bar is unassuming, welcoming, with decent prices for the outstanding fare.

Going in alone, I was invited to 3 different tables. Welcomed into the space with genuine interest in conversation. Music or sports were playing, but the sound was not overwhelming. Children are welcome as well as pets. Archie is a true delight.

Every dish that came out of the kitchen was crafted with care. I had something like a scallop sandwich, but seeing the other food that came out, I never saw an unappetizing presentation. The portions were generous and the seafood was fresh.

Edited to add: If I found myself back in the Hebrides, I would try to find a way to come back. This bar made me glad that I...

We remember that pub from before it was closed. It was grey, cold and food was very mediocre. The new owner made it awesome! It’s cozy and soooo alive! We reccomend to book, the pub is almost all the time full, that’s why you have to wait for your food a bit longer. I ate here one of the best lobsters in my life, straight from the ocean that starts just a few steps from the pub.

We also tried cullen skink. Super tasty, creamy and thick, loaded with fish and potatoes.

Fish and chips as a dish was awesome, super fresh fish with very good chips. And super yummy desserts, especially rice pudding! ❤️

Worth to visit, Portnahaven itself is an additional perk of...

Think be unfair to give a bad review given we ordered takeout and that might have affected the food quality. We ordered the scallops which cost £28 and there were six scallops with fries (skinny chips) and salad (we forego this as we had loads of greens at accomodation). Scallops were tad overcooked thus rubbery texture, and soaked in butter (perhaps be better on a plate but when packed, became like a cup of melted butter). Lovely and friendly service though, thus I figured it might be takeout that affected the quality. Islay is tad more expensive to dine which was expected given it's more remote than some other islands.

We went here for dinner on our first night, where we had fish and chips, a burger, scallops and langoustines. The atmosphere and food were excellent! So much so that we cancelled our reservation at another restaurant on the island to come back here on the Saturday night. This time we added a lobster to our order which had been freshly caught on the local shores. Locals and bar staff were wonderfully friendly and made us feel very welcome. Recommending this place to everyone we know who is visiting Islay! Looking forward to coming back again and seeing the local dogs and seals 🥰
