Really disappointing and almost stale cakes- very much a place for “ if your face fits” suggest you look elsewhere if you turn up for coffee and a bite to eat in Applecross! I visited with my adult son and well behaved small dog at the end of April after traversing the infamous pass of the cattle- we had looked up the place in advance, made sure it was dog friendly and just made it to the garden towards the end of lunchtime service. Whilst the staff were friendly and the garden seating area very pleasant, the other guests were not- we felt decidedly uncomfortable, out of place and under dressed. We decided to ask for just cakes and coffee because we didn’t want to put the serving staff out, however, we were surprised when a couple of guests turned up some 15 mins after us and after lunchtime service had ended and seemed to ignore the time limits, ordering a full meal- seems one rule for one and another for faces that fit. The cakes were dry, nearly stale and overpriced. Coffee was passable. As said, serving staff were friendly enough, they seem to be up against an arrogant clientele tbh. But we can’t recommend this place. We would recommend you held your hunger and looked for cheaper, simpler places off of the peninsula if looking for a quick...

We prebooked for dinner and glad we did as they were full to capacity. The little walk though the garden is pretty but didn't stop to keep the midges away. Service was good throughout. There's a specials board which has quite a few starters and mains to choose from. I got the Scallops cooked in garlic butter with Stornoway Black pudding,  bacon and pea puree. (£12) it was so delicious. Two scallops cooked to perfection. Sweet Scallops and rich black pudding. I could've eaten another.  Fantastic. My husband had Duck breast and leg served with crispy potato nest and remoulade. Again very nice and both beautifully presented. For mains,  Smoked Haddock chowder with home made bread and Duck leg confit with salad and new potatoes. Both very good. Very Smokey chowder the smell was great.  The Duck super tender and crispy skin. Dessert was chocolate marquise with vanilla ice cream and two sorbet  (mango and chilli and blood orange) good desserts. All washed down with a few bottles of Skye beer. £93 including tip. Stand out dish for me was the Scallops.. perfect. Went for scones the next day.. very good.. tasty homemade jam managed to sit in the beautiful garden in the sun...

What a lucky find! I do hope you take the time to stop and eat or even just freely browse the garden. The food and people are lovely! It might help visitors to know: nothing outside really tells you if it’s open, and the closed gate often catches people stood before it looking for a sign. Similarly, inside it’s not clear how the whole ordering process works. So here it is: it’s a tapas menu, with items costing around £6 to £8 each and a suggestion you order 3-4 plates each. For us, 3 was too much food! You’ll want to head to the counter first and specify if you’re visiting for drinks or a meal, and you’ll be directed towards a table and given a menu if applicable. Come back to the counter to give your order, along with your table number. You won’t need to pay till you’re ready to leave. At that point just return to the counter and let them know you’re...

Amazing day out at Applecross Walled Garden. The garden itself although small is packed to the brim with fruit and veg and lots of interesting shrubs and flowers. Beautifully kept paths and seating areas. We had lunch at the restaurant which was absolutely delicious, everything tasted so fresh, its literally from garden to plate. There are small dishes or main meals on the special board, also a lovely selection of cocktails, wine and beers. Though do save some space for dessert, really delicious. After lunch we did a large circuit walk around the estate behind the gardens, where you will find good paths and clear signposts. Lots of deer all around the area too. A fantastic day out, parking and entry to gardens are free but highly recommend you stop to eat here too. Staff were very friendly and attentive also.

I know that this café/restaurant is in the Michelin guide and has great reviews but I felt very much that it's trading on its reputation when we had coffee there this morning. The choice of cakes with the coffee this morning was the gluten free brownie (the only option if you're GF...as usual 🙄), Lemon Drizzle slice (very sugary topping), Chocolate cornflake cake and a scone with jam & cream. IMHO that's not really good enough for a top quality café. There were various alternative milks - tick - for the latte but both of our saucers had chips in them and none of the cutlery matched. 2xlatte + 2xcake = £12. Reasonably pricey I thought for what was quite average. If I'd had it my my local caff I'd have expected what I got but I'd travelled a long way to partake of this recommended venue.
