Recently stayed in the Beinn Duchcariag Lodge with my family and as a member of the family is being treated due to having terminal cancer we wanted to have a nice relaxing break away. On arrival was greeted by two woman not so happy looking at the warden’s office, smoking and eating only to be told they were on their lunch and lodge wouldn’t be ready, quite abruptly. Told to give our phone number and go to bar and someone would contact us asap. Went to bar and we were unable to get a seat for a drink or lunch as all the other staff in the park were prioritised with their food and drink at the tables. This is what happens every day we found out throughout our stay. Even worse is listening to the staff loudly slagging/slating other customers, swearing loudly and complaining about their work.. Eventually got a call after the agreed check in time that lodge was ready, woohoo. On arriving at the lodge noticed straight away various serious safety issues some being loose handles brackets, lights inop, parts of flooring/decking broken and catching footwear etc. Main glass panel hanging very loosely at front of decking due to broken framework . Very surprised that there is not a basic first aid kit avail to customers with all these issues. On entering lodge quickly unpacked and started with a coffee and something to eat but every single cup, glass, plate, cookware were absolutely disgusting. Lip stick on glasses, cracked glasses, very poor. Had to put everything in the dishwasher which obviously hadn’t been done. Found that the fridge door still isn’t working as per another persons review months ago and various stains on things that again had been reported. On the third day we noticed that the hot tub hadn’t been checked and this is a major issue with someone with terminal cancer and is vulnerable to infections easily, this was reported and dealt with asap but as a hot tub owner this should be checked daily. Also noticed that the sauna still isn’t working from another persons previous review months ago also so that wasn’t used. Also asked very helpful young gentleman in wardens office regarding lack of toilet paper in lodge and would it be possible to get another couple of rolls. He went and got me a roll and said someone would bring some more down to us soon. Waited and waited to no avail then decided we should go to go to bar and surprise surprise full of all the staff again, saw the young boy and mentioned again regarding toilet paper and he explained that he had spoken to his boss and apparently three and a half rolls of extremely cheap toilet paper is enough for an eight person lodge and also half a roll of cheap kitchen roll for a week and we would have to get some elsewhere. We were utterly shocked at this. If this was mentioned earlier we would have quite...

The location is beautiful which I can imagine is the only reason the place is still running. The customer service for checking in was fine but slow, the bar service was slow and expensive, the rooms are fine but outdated and not the cleanest but the site is messy, run down and is basically a car park for motor homes, old broken boats, people’s rubbish and dog poo. The owners are running the place into the ground it seems. Two massive dogs running around unsupervised, aggressive and actually attacked ours. When I questioned the dogs owner she (the house on the marina, tall Eastern European woman) got verbally aggressive shouting and swearing. We left it at that, not wanting to ruin our weekend further but she was not a nice person, the exact opposite of how you’d expect someone to act when representing a family business. Witnessed the dog fouling on multiple occasions and these were left there over the course of two days, who knows if they are still there now we’ve left, but it wouldn’t surprise me by going from the rest of the place. There were two kids from the marina house that were left unsupervised in the water for long periods of time, to the point where we felt we have to keep an eye on them as it was so busy but no parent seemed to care, one of them must have been about 5/6, you’d think living by the water you’d understand the dangers of the water and that a life jacket isn’t full proof to just abandon your child. ||||Under management who actually cares I feel this place could be really something again, but it seems to be run by a group of chavs who just want to make...
Read moreStopped over here on our hike on the West Highland Way. A mixed experience. |The welcome we received was atrocious. It had been raining, and along with an American lady whom we met on the ferry across we were looking forward to getting dried off. We got to reception and after we'd waited about 10 minutes, a chap appeared briefly to say 'someone will be with you to check you in in 10 minutes', then disappeared. After a further 10 minutes I ventured into the staff area behind the reception desk, and explained to a couple of people that we were waiting to check in, and that we'd been waiting 20 minutes. They said 'well we're very busy at the moment, someone will be out shortly. 5 minutes later a friendly enough chap arrived, but it was a terrible welcome overall. |The room was comfortable enough EXCEPT not that clean, and the shower was very poor - just a trickle of water really. |The food was quite nice and the restaurant staff at dinner were friendly and helpful. |But the service at breakfast, I'm afraid, displayed more of the attitude that the hotel's guests were an inconvenience to the smooth running of the hotel. Breakfast doesn't start till 8 and the first ferry is at 9, so it didn't leave much time as we had a 14 mile walk ahead of us - we waited at the breakfast room door but there was noone there so we went to sit down, whereupon the only lady serving shouted across to us, pointing her finger, that we should wait to be seated. No hot food on the buffet, you had to order from this person, and our (hard) poached eggs arrived at 8.35 so it was all a bit of a rush. |Not at all the usual sort of Highland hospitality....
