Family, friends and I have been going to Armstrong’s for years and have always looked forward to the food , atmosphere and friendly service. Today however my friend and I visited for lunch and were placed in a table for two amongst a funeral party . How awkward did we feel and how did they feel. This was despite when booking we were told about the funeral party but we’re assured we would be seated in the bar area away from the funeral party. To our horror we were not but seated amongst them. When given the menus we asked if there was a specials menu and the young male waiter said he couldn’t remember what the specials and we had to ask for the specials menu ! A glass of red Malbec was delivered in a chilled white wine glass .. 🙄. The starters arrived and were placed in the middle of the table .. chicken wings .. and we had to ask for side plates ! The main courses were not up to the Armstrongs standard we were used to ! The beef stroganoff was chewy and tough . The breaded haddock was not very flavoursome and the peas were hard . All in all a very disappointing visit . Unfortunately we will not be rushing back...

My mother and I visited the restaurant last night, and had a wonderful experience. The decor was stunning, and the menu boasted a good variety of dishes featuring fresh, locally sourced produce. We were both really impressed with how fresh the food was, and how expertly each dish we ordered was crafted. Every plate was gorgeous, and delicious. Mum was particularly impressed with the chicken ballotine, with Stornoway white pudding, a handmade mini chicken Kiev, pearl barley and heritage carrots with a lovely thyme sauce. And she hasn't stopped talking about the dark chocolate ganache she had for dessert since we left last night! I was thoroughly pleased with my starter of scallops and langoustines with Stornoway black pudding, and my main of pork belly was also divine. The mille-feuille I had for dessert was delicious, and beautifully complimented by a white chocolate and whisky ice cream. We really cannot praise the food highly enough. The quality was outstanding, and very reasonably priced. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly and service was timely and warm. We will...

This is my first visit to Armstrong bar and restaurant. I met with the new owner and his business partner apologies I have forgotten your name. I was met with a friendly welcome from all the staff. From chatting with the staff I found out that the current owners have only taken it over for the last 4 weeks. They have introduced a couple of changes to the menu, having specialty nights as in Tuesday tastes of India with a selection of curry to choose from, Wednesday they have the best Scottish steak on offer and Sunday carvery with a selection of meat and seasoned vegetables. My mouth is watering as I am typing this! So let me tell you what I ordered for my meal, well I ordered lasagna it came with chips and a side salad and garlic bread. There wasn't a long wait and it came out piping hot. From the first bite to the last was full of tasty ingredients. I fully enjoyed the meal and found that it was the perfect portion size too. I would recommend a visit as they have a variety of dishes to choose from and I am sure that you won't be disappointed. Thank you guys I will...

Great atmosphere, good food, free parking and a lot of gluten-free options available. There also a kids menu to make the little ones happy. Food standard /quality is good, service and staff are working so hard to make sure that you are happy with your meal. Price for main is between 14 and 25 pounds so not cheap but food quality and presentation are of a different standard. The Kids menu £8.50 does not include drinks (It would not cost much to the restaurant) Lots of flavours on display, some spices combinations or the quantity of them are questionable but it depends on your personal taste, we enjoyed it. No music or loud noise which is a plus nowadays, a restaurant where you can taste freshly cooked food and you can chat with the people sitting at your table. Good selection os spirits, mocktails, cocktails, whisky. We will definitely be back.

I went for dinner with my wife, I had the scallops for starter, pork belly for main with sweet potato chips and the rhubarb white chocolate cheese cake for dessert. The food was very nice, simple but special with small twists on everything. My wife had the fried brie cheese, vegan curry and brownie. Her food was good but nothing special for a vegetarian, the curry was fine but way too spicy and with nothing like yogurt to cool it a bit. Altogether a very nice experience with a great waitress. Would recommend it if you're all meat eaters the food is very good and a bit different than the usual British cuisine.
