Balfour's — Restaurant in Scotland

So where to start with this review...

The first visit was very pleasent and the staff were very friendly, even giving us 2 free bottles of juice as we had spent £58. Which was very nice of them.

Upon getting home we proceeded to open all the packs to dish out the food to all 18 of us. As we opened the 3 portions of chips and curry sauce we were presented with portions that were roughly half the size of the box.

I then called them to present the problem, by simply asking if they could provide more chips to make up the portion. The cashier assistant passed the phone to 'Donna'. I had simply said my problem again and asked if I could pop back up to get the chips topped up, to which they said yeah pop up. I thought this was the problem sorted however I was very wrong.

Upon arriving back at the chippy I was presented with 2 very confrontational staff members who were not accepting that the portions they had served to me were what I had gone back with (Yes I even took back the originals to show them). Donna started saying to me that she had been in business for 45 years and that I better not start an argument with her, that there was no way that they left the shop like that. I was given my money back and then ignored for 2 minutes as I stood not knowing what was happening, Donna then proceeded to say to me that was I expecting to receive 3 more portions to which I said yes as I had 3 people that still needed dinner. I was then told that she should not be doing this, my reply was that I am willing to pay for them but not accept a half portion. As they were putting my replacents together, Donna proceeded to say to the cashier assistant make sure there is enough chips in there now.

At that I was given my replacement order with nothing so much as a sorry or thank you. I simply left them with a thanks because unlike the 2 individuals, I was brought up with manners.

I was visiting family who highly recommended this chip shop due to its glowing reports and tasty food.

I would highly recommend that no one steps near this chip shop because even though the food was very tasty and fresh, the staffs manners are more important than the food itself. I was made out to be a liar, made to feel intimidated in front of other customers and not made to feel very welcome at all. I hope that some form of owner or management sees this review and takes appropriate measures to retrain both members of staff on how to actual manage complaints and customer expectations.

cannot love this place enough. every time i'm in scotland, i make it a point to visit balfours. as soon as you walk in the ladies working immediately start chatting you up, getting your order or seeing how you're doing, etc. not only that but they remember EVERYTHING. none of the orders are written down but can be recited back with precision. i go there once every several months but they still remember my wife and i. they make you...

Its a tiny hole-in-the-wall place in a nondescript building on a forgotten side road. Handwritten signs are tacked up on the wall. Sales are cash only. I knew it would be perfect. There's a line out the door and Kristen and Donna are cracking jokes with regulars while the chips fry and huge fish portions are wrapped in generous amounts of paper.
