If you told someone that you travelled 70 miles via 2 ferries and a fairly barren landscape, just to visit a bar, they would think you were mad. But this is no ordinary bar. It happens to be the most northerly drinking establishment in the British Isles. The Balta Light is situated in Baltasound on Unst, the most northerly island of the Shetlands. Due to time limitations, because of the winter ferry schedules, we only managed to experience half an hour in their company. The friendly bar lady served the best pint of Guinness I've ever tasted outside of Ireland !! I'm not joking. It was superb. I managed to enjoy 2 pints. (Don't worry, I wasn't driving) Hopefully, in the future, I will visit in the summertime when I'll be able to spend more time. A real treat....
