If you told someone that you travelled 70 miles via 2 ferries and a fairly barren landscape, just to visit a bar, they would think you were mad. But this is no ordinary bar. It happens to be the most northerly drinking establishment in the British Isles. The Balta Light is situated in Baltasound on Unst, the most northerly island of the Shetlands. Due to time limitations, because of the winter ferry schedules, we only managed to experience half an hour in their company. The friendly bar lady served the best pint of Guinness I've ever tasted outside of Ireland !! I'm not joking. It was superb. I managed to enjoy 2 pints. (Don't worry, I wasn't driving) Hopefully, in the future, I will visit in the summertime when I'll be able to spend more time. A real treat. Many thanks.

My wife and I visited all the way from California and stumbled upon this amazing, warm and welcoming pub a couple years ago and still talk about how much fun we had that evening! Gary even read my wife's palm :D

We only had a drink in the most northern bar of Scotland. Nice people, good IPA beer and whiskey reasonable prices. Only real pub for the Isle of Unst. Thanks
