Came here from fife on Hogmanay for our family get together. 7 adults and 2 toddlers. Friendly greetings from waitress and promptly seated including baby chairs. Drinks ordered first and all good.Starters arrived soon after ordering together with children's food which was perfect. Everyone happy with starters especially the cock a leeky chicken soup and the scallops which were especially good. Then the mains arrived altogether within a minute, well done. Everyone was happy with the food and the generous platefuls, although I thought the red tai vegetable and rice would not be enough for a male, it could have done with a little more vegetables. The haddock and chips were fine but could have done with a larger plate to Eat off . The children's food was good and adequate. Lastly the sweets came which were lovely apart from the clootie dumpling and custard which was a bit dry and for the price could have been a bit more Also vegetarian dishes could have more choice. We had a couple of rounds of drinks throughout the meal and the total was£400.00 . Both the toilets were very clean and modern and the baby changing facility was good. I would say brown and blacks is quality pub food. Little note their was a 10% service charge although I am assured that you don't have to pay but should be spoken about to whoever asks for the bill to save embarrassment. Most of us agreed we would Pop in here again in the future and would...
Read moreWent for an impromptu Sunday lunch. The place was fairly busy and the staff were accomodating for us. We ordered drinks and a child's meal first and was appreciative of them getting the child's meal out to the table asap. My partner ordered the haggis burger which he said was nice. I ordered the fishcakes, but unfortunately was hugely disappointed. The leek sauce that they came with was lovely, however the fishcakes themselves had very little (if any!) fish in them. I cut one open to find mashed potato.... And that was it. I couldn't taste any fish. I cut the other open to find the same. They were also served with yet more potatoes... I did say to the waitress, who was accomodating again, and asked if I wanted anything else from the menu. My partner and child were over half way through their meal, so felt I didn't have time to wait for another main to be cooked, so ordered soup. I did also have to ask a couple times for more drinks which didn't seem to arrive the first time. This was a rare treat for us to come out for food, however we left feeling pretty disappointed. Nice place, but can't say...
Read moreFood was ok. I ordered the sweet potato and chilli soup, it was nice, good texture with a little hint of spice. A little butter with the toasted bread would have made it better and it could have been served a bit hotter.
Then I asked for a caesar salad...usually quite hard to mess up, but they forgot to add the anchovies and parmesan shavings... I got a plate of heavily seasoned chicken and croutons over less than crispy lettuce, not romaine. There was a good amount of chicken which was saved from being dry by the amount of caesar dressing on the plate.
Service was ok...but I didn't manage to tell them about my lettuce and chicken being minus the other caesar ingredients because they were too busy to check on me.
Covid precautions seemed decent, they took track and trace details and staff were wearing masks. However it would be very difficult to keep 1 meter distance on the premises because it was quite busy.
There is a lift for those who are wheelchair users, I didn't check on the availability or size of the toilets for...
