Café 1702 - Crathes Castle (National Trust for Scotland) — Restaurant in Scotland

Being members of the NT and visiting such a historic castle 🏰 I have to say the low point was visiting the cafe. On entering at 3.35pm yesterday we were confronted with 3 young staff members standing at the back of the service area arms crossed. Not one member of staff walked forward to welcome us or indicate what food options were available. We asked if there was a hot soup option to that the answer was NO and we were directed by the pointing of a finger to a chilled display with only 5 packed sandwiches left. I did remark to one staff member " you look like you really don't want to be here " 🤔🤔 and " looking at the clock want make it go any faster " 🙄🙄. STAFF: no enthusiasm, no welcome, no communication, and a definite lack of direction. As we were 40+ years in the catering and service sector this is probably as bad as it gets. This place is so good and people who work here make it even a greater experience. We went there with family today and my 1 year old daughter spilled coffee all over my sister. A fantastic colleague came and took away my daughters wet shoes to dry them up. The other colleague patiently cleaned the spill. I didn't get a chance to personally thank the the team for all their help as there was a lot going on with us but if I may take this opportunity to thank the lovely lady with an English accent for her help and her lovely chat. Ordered two hot meals. Jacket potato came and our number was taken away with it despite us waiting on another meal. Jacket potato said it came with chips but these turned out to be crisps. Waited 40 minutes for a chicken and chorizo pasty which was supposed to be a maximum of 20, wasn't worth it when it came either. When ordering I asked what the soup of the day was to which the response was three minutes. I then asked again but what soup is it and the response again was, it'll be ready in 3 minutes.
